Sen. Adam Schiff

We need real solutions and bold investments to address the housing affordability crisis in America.

With the support of ‪@danielluriesf‬ and other great leaders, I introduced the Housing Boom Act to help spark a new housing boom across the country.

I still maintain slapping up crappy new construction with hefty mortgage is stupid. Focus on rehabilitation skills for older, cheaper homes at much lower cost...faster, ecologically better, community building, preserve history/beauty of neighborhood

How about affordable apartments for seniors?? As it is, I'm having to live with one of my kids because there are NO affordable apartments in my part of the country. I'm a disabled veteran trying to live on my VA benefits & it's not cutting it. The jobs here don't pay enough to make up the difference & I'm too young for social security. All because out of state corporations have bought up all the complexes here & jacked the rent to thousands a month. It needs to stop.

Yeah! Lets build more houses nobody can afford! 🤬 While corporations buy up family neighborhoods, and 10's of thousands of houses sit abandoned! But, hey! Lets build more houses for big corporations to buy up!

It was just in Portland’s news today that we have something like 3000 empty units sitting available that no one has moved into. Every city in America is like this. We do not need a building boom it is the most ridiculous idea ever. A waste of resources.

@Blinky_Dorf

Could you get corporations to stop buying all the houses and jacking up the prices? Thanks bud.

I pray always for change. As health care,single parents raising children,and so on. It's just been neglected way to long. Even more so with education and manufacturing in the United States.

Problem isn’t the supply of housing, the average income simply can’t afford the average cost of a house or even qualify to get a reasonable loan amount.

I'm skeptical. Guard against this just becoming an enrichment scheme that gives the corporate and mega-landlords more stock.

Absolutely the American housing first program is a great idea for those who are disabled in need of a home such as a person as I am. Unfortunately corporate greed and their investments in property have only increased the price for housing for everyone. I can't stand the complainers that haven't yet had the need. I have friends in sailboats or lower level areas of Miami that are paying over $2,000 for a one-bedroom which is unaffordable for most single families or people that are alone without family without property and just live on SSDI like I do. Jerk complainers are usually the ones with money to afford their home were millions cannot afford it.

Local permitting and zoning policies have more to do with the crisis than anything. Start there. It takes forever to get a development approved, and it's costly, and investors and builders go where there's a more friendly and straightforward process, like with commercial development. Wanna build office space and mini malls, no problem. Wanna build low-income apartments, big hoops.
