Opened on May 13, 1922, it was built by showman and theatre chain owner Marcus Loew, who named the showplace after his old friend David Warfield, a native San Franciscan who began as an usher and grew to be one of the greatest silent film actors of his time. This amazingly beautiful theater has hosted some of the most legendary performers. It plays a special role for the San Francisco music history and a gem in Jerry Garcia History. I was fortunate (Being from the East Coast) that I saw Jerry there in 1993. Having the opportunity to arrive in San Fran for a vacation aligned with this amazing show. 👍 Show opened with the son of the one and only David Grisman who in his own right a wonderful musician.
