I uploaded these songs audio files I was sent and created videos to honour the memory of Benjamin Orr, Ric Ocasek and to pay tribute to The Cars and Cap'n Swing. Most of these have lyrics I added, any mistakes are mine and I apologize if there are any. Glenn Evans who was the drummer of Cap'n Swing commented and wrote that he owns copyright to these musical performances. This is the link to Glenn's website drumstooge.com/h-o-m-e Because the purpose is to non-commercially share the legacy of Benjamin and The Cars, these videos are being uploaded under the terms of Fair Use. No copyright infringement intended. If you enjoyed watching these videos please add a thumbs up and subscribe. I have used photos of Benjamin and the band I found online and I used my own photographs as a backdrop to these photos. Please contact me if you took any of these photos and would like your name added to this, however I am doing this as labour of love and no profit is made from any of my videos. I would like to thank all the talented photographers who generously shared their photos over the years with fans. In some cases I added some photos of myself to some videos and no disrespect was intended and it was done to compliment the lyrics of a song, I hope it worked. I would like to perhaps help a younger audience find out about Benjamin and become new fans If you like this please subscribe to this channel and please come and check out my Facebook page by the same title as this channel @ www.facebook.com/8.9.1947BenjaminOrrElectricAngelR… The band Cap'n Swing was formed in 1975 when Ric and Benjamin wanted to get back to rock music after their band Milkwood. Benjamin was front man vocalist of the Cap'n Swing (and how I would love to see performances of those times) Ric was on rhythm guitar and also sang a few songs and shared vocals with Benjamin on one or 2 songs (the opposite of The Cars) , Elliot Steinberg (who would soon change his name to Easton) on lead guitar, Todd Roberto on bass, Danny Shliftman on keyboards and Glenn Evans on drums (later replaced by Kevin Robichaud after Glenn decided to move on). Benjamin performed with tambourine and cowbells, The band developed quite a following in the Boston area in around 1976, gaining the attention of popular local DJ Maxanne Sartori, who was a huge supporter and loved this band after seeing them perform at the WBCN Newbury Street Music Fair. She later suggested that Benjamin would look better with a bass or guitar in his hand, so Ric then asked Benjamin to become the bassist of The Cars. The first song I ever heard by Cap'n Swing was Indigo which would end up being Wake Me Up as a demo by The Cars. I was incredibly moved by Benjamin's vocals. This band Cap'n Swing had several "inCARnations" (see what I did there?). It is said and Greg Hawkes rejoined the band and The Cars were formed, ‘rejoined’ is used because Greg used to play with Ric and Benjamin around 1974 in the band called Richard and the Rabbits. There you have a bit of the evolution On July 13, 1976, Cap'n Swing recorded a series of demos at Great Northern Studios in Boston. The finished product included the following eleven songs: 1. Bye Bye Love (Ric on vocals) 2. Strawberry Moonlight 3. Jezebel 4. Goes On Sleeping 5. Twilight Superman (Ric on vocals) 6. You’re Always Brighter 7. City Lights (Ric on vocals) 8. Dream Trader (shared vocals) 9. You Can Have ‘Em (also known as Blue Moon Saloon, or Sleepy Wasted Afternoon) 10. Come Back Down 11. Magic Pants (also known as Crazy Rock and Roll) At some point they recorded another set of demos, which would also include: 1. Indigo 2. So Far Away 3. Lover and a Holiday (also known as See Through My Eyes) These 2 songs were also performed by the band 1. Start It All Again 2. Will You Still Love Me Tonight Some material by Cap’n Swing was included when The Cars performed with some having been tweaked, though only a few made it to vinyl. 1. You Can Have ‘Em (also known as Blue Moon Saloon, or Sleepy Wasted Afternoon) 2. Bye Bye Love, which of course showed up on The Cars debut album, sung by Benjamin Orr 3. Strawberry Moonlight 4. Come Back Down 5. Lover and a Holiday (also known as See Through My Eyes), sung by Benjamin Orr 6. Indigo came back as Wake Me Up 7. Toby Goldstein writes in her book, Frozen Fire, that Cap’n Swing was playing You’re All I’ve Got Tonight as well. Warmest regards, please stay safe 😷 , Tia ⚡ 😇 🎸🎼
