Baby Can't Crawl ? Weak Legs May Be The Cause

🎁 FREE 0–12 Month Baby Milestone Checklist: preview.mailerlite.io/forms/1795021/17644598030395… Is your 14-month-old baby still not crawling, even though their arms and upper body look strong? If your baby can push their chest up off the floor but the legs stay stretched out behind, the knees slide out to the sides, or the hips collapse when you place baby on hands and knees, weak leg strength may be part of the problem. In this episode of the BabyMasterPT Crawling Show, pediatric physical therapist Cherrick Gordon, MSPT walks through the signs he looks for when trying to figure out whether weak legs are contributing to a crawling delay. You’ll learn how to check whether your baby can: • Pull the knees underneath the hips • Keep the legs from splaying out to the sides • Support body weight through the hips and legs • Push through the feet and straighten the legs with control Then I demonstrate a progression of practical baby crawling exercises to help build lower-body strength, including: • Lying leg presses • Baby squats • Rocking on hands and knees • Supported lunges at the couch • Hands-and-knees weight shifting with the knees kept underneath the hips • Extra supported squat practice for babies who tend to lock their knees straight The goal is to start where your baby is and gradually build the leg strength needed to push, stabilize, and help move the body forward during crawling. Crawling is not just an arm activity—the legs eventually have to do their share of the work too. And if your baby’s arms and legs are getting stronger but they still cannot stay steady on hands and knees, the next thing to look at may be core and trunk strength. That’s the focus of the next episode in the BabyMasterPT Crawling Show.
