Highlights: E/V Nautilus & ROV Operations
At the core of Nautilus exploratory missions are remotely-operated vehicles (ROVs) Hercules and Argus. There are few science-related ROV systems in the world made specifically for oceanographic research and our two-body system operates with both vehicles in the water working in tandem to explore the geology, biology, archaeology, and chemistry of the ocean. Argus acts as a stabilizer so that Hercules pilots can remotely collect biological and geological samples with precise dexterity while simultaneously streaming high-definition video that allows for real-time telepresence for viewers around the world.
Launch and recovery of both vehicles takes place on the back deck of E/V Nautilus and requires several team members to operate equipment. Learn more:
