Rise of Alexander

All individual tracks from Rise of Alexander, a 2011 concept album based on the life of Alexander the Great. On the CD, many songs flow directly into the next with no break. If you want to listen to the album as it was intended to be heard without distracting gaps in the music, watch the full length lyric video here: youtu.be/80kOcjz6kdY It's probably worth mentioning one thing that divided CD listeners. Long before there was a video, I attempted to convey the passage of time with a stylistic conceit: the arrangements were intended to broadly evoke the spirit of music I had favored when I was the same age Alexander is at successive points in the story. Some thought it worked, others found it distracting, and many didn't even notice. At any rate, that's the main reason it starts off sounding quite "retro art rock" and gets heavier as the story progresses. The other reason, almost as important, is that I thought the musical evolution also supported the progression of the lyrical themes rather nicely. Personnel: Tanya Rice (female vocals), Jeff Buser (male vocals, all instrumental performances, engineering, production, mastering; likewise for the video). Copyright © 2011, 2024 Jeff Buser.
