Ahwatukee History Project Hi, I’m Allen Henderson, the Broker at Henderson Real Estate. A few years ago I was spending a quiet afternoon in a bookstore. I came across a book about the history of Ahwatukee. The Title was Phoenix's Ahwatukee Foothills. The book was written by Martin Gibson. It tells the story of the history of Ahwatukee. It tells of the early Kyrene Farming Community, the people who settled here, farmed here and played here. It tells the story of a California developer who came here in the early 1970’s and built a golf course and a retirement community in the barren desert.   It tells the story of Mountain Park Ranch, Lakewood, The Foothills, Club West and the stories of the people with the vision to make it all happen. It tells the story of the Army tank test track that became a heavy equipment test track that eventually became Chandler Blvd and Desert Foothills Parkway.  I was captivated. After discovering the book, I went around Ahwatukee trying to see the places that Martin Gibson had written about. I tried to imagine those early days and the people and events. I thought there must be others who had the same curiosity I had.  Eventually, I thought about doing a series of videos based on the book. I wanted to show the before and after pictures and videos to bring the history of Ahwatukee to even more Ahwatukee residents.  I reached out to Paul Maryniak, the Executive Editor at the Ahwatukee Foothills News. Paul graciously put me in touch with Mr. Gibson to discuss my ideas.  Marty was enthusiastic and agreed to collaborate with me and do a series of videos.  Our objective is to showcase the people and life in the Kyrene farming community and the rapid development that occurred to make Ahwatukee what it is today.   It is a work in progress.
