Hi, I am Chris Green (The History Chap) sharing stories about the history of Britain both here on Youtube and at www.thehistorychap.com World War 2 seems to be a national pastime in Britain. I try to find the real history behind some of the films and headlines, as well as exploring the lesser known events. maybe it was because the British were on the winning side but maybe it was a moment when for nearly a year, Britain stood alone against Nazi Germany. That standing defiantly against Hitler when all the odds were in his favour and the coming together of a nation (the Dunkirk spirit and Blitz spirit) became defining moments in British history. As Winston Churchill said it was possibly Britain's "Finest Hour". In this playlist I share stories from Britain's involvement in World War 2. from the miracle of the Dunkirk Evacuation (Operation Dynamo in 1940), through to the disaster of the Dieppe Raid in 1943 through to the heroism of the Dambusters led by Guy Gibson VC and the D-Day landings in Normandy in 1944. I have also included some stories from the Home Front in the Second World War, including the Coventry Blitz in 1940 and the Battle of Graveney Marsh in Kent - which some people refer to as the last land battle in Britain. Over the coming months I will be adding to my playlist about WW2 with talks about Anzio and the Fall of Singapore, plus some more stories about D-Day.
