In the late 1990's and early 2000's I ran a couple of websites that collected field data from numerous clinicians working with phantom limb pain. Many were in various parts of Africa dealing with the horrific aftermath of the civil wars there. I began to collect differences and similarities in order to develop a better treatment protocol and better understand why for some patients the mirror box proved to be ineffective. As a result of this work, I have been able to increase the efficacy of the mirror box intervention. Whilst it is not a cure-all for everyone, I have been able to get a significant result in many [but not all] patients for whom there was no previous benefit derived from mirror box therapy.
