hey every1! i've been building a music digging tool called cosine.club over the last year or so. some of you might have seen it floating around but i haven't posted about it here before
its a music similarity search engine. you put in a track (or paste a YT/Bandcamp/Soundcloud link) and it finds similar ones from an index of ~1.9 million items using machine learning on the actual audio. unlike spotify's recommendations which are biased towards engagement and metrics, this is purely based on how the music sounds
its really good for digging when you don't know where to start. sometimes i just click randomly through a few tracks and find myself in a wormhole. you can also use it a bit like shazam to ID tracks if you cut out of a mix and upload to vocaroo ;)
so much of this stuff isn't on streaming platforms. we can only hear it because someone called "DaveyBoy921" uploaded a dodgy sounding vinyl rip in 2007. i wanted to build something that could surface those underground tracks that traditional algorithms would never show
been making some updates recently:
- you can save tracks to playlists now (and share them if you want!) - theres an api if you want to get ~~~ technical ~~~ - you can filter by year, have/want, price etc, good for finding £1 bangers or looking at stuff you can never afford on discogs - i made it green??
thanks for checking it out and hope you find some cool stuff!! <3
