🚨 RIP CHAD GILBERT OF NEW FOUND GLORY AND SHAI HULUD 🚨

Terrible news in the world of Punk Rock as New Found Glory co-founding guitarist Chad Gilbert has died. He was just 45 years old. His wife and the band shared the news in a joint post, which you can read at their post. Gilbert had battled cancer off and on since 2021, and had a serious thyroid gland removal in 2011. After surgery in late 2021 for cancer, Gilbert had been cancer-free. In 2022, he shared that he was cancer-free again, only to have it return in 2024, forcing him to eventually undergo brain surgery to remove a tumor this past Spring. In April, he expressed hope in returning to the stage this summer following surgery. In addition to all 13 albums with New Found Glory (including 2026’s Listen Up – Pure Noise Records), Chad was the original vocalist of influential Hardcore legends Shai Hulud, a member of punk supergroups Hazen Street and International Superheroes of Hardcore, solo music under What’s Eating Gilbert, as well as countless producing credits for H2O, A Day to Remember, Terror, Trapped Under Ice, Lisa Loeb, State Champs, Candy Hearts, and more. Beyond that, we covered Chad and his bands all-around the world on countless tours, including Warped Tour and Riot Fest. RIP.

Hordes X Festival Kicks Off This Week with De Profundis, Ramage Inc., Cnoc An Tursa, Opensight, and More

Set in Scotland’s 4th biggest city, Dundee, Hordes X, the country’s oldest metal fest, hits the Hidden and Music Hall venues, Friday 18th and Saturday 19th of September. The 16th edition is headlined by De Profundis, alongside Ramage Inc., Cnoc An Tursa, Opensight, and 15 other bands. Read more below.

Doors at Hidden open 5pm Friday, with a six band warmup, featuring sludge/hardcore newcomers, Skaith, OSDM from Feral Ghoul, Glasgow death-thrashers, Sacrificial Burial, secretive groove metal outfit, Dark Remnants, thrash madness from Crusaders, and closed out with truly unique, progressive cine-metal, courtesy of Opensight.

The Saturday kicks off earlier, at 2pm, running across two stages, with zero clashes. Proceedings in both venues start on a strong footing with Bruxa and King Nobody, before working through highlights such as Maltese black metal project, Sahhar, Northern Irish, gothic, death from Mourning of the Heretic, and original Scottish NWOBHM force, Medusa Touch.

Returned to action earlier this year, Scottish black/folk metal unit, Cnoc An Tursa perform a special guest slot as top support, before Ramage Inc. headline the second stage, their first show with a new lineup, and new music. London progressive death metal legends, De Profundis, then finish off the show, in the final downswing of their 20th anniversary celebrations.

Hordes X is partnered with local mental health charity, Angus Voice. In order to raise funds, they will be running a tombola/raffle during the main day, where one lucky festival goer will claim the top prize; a signed copy of Life… ? and Napalm Death, the new book from Shane Embury.

Advance tickets are still available at £20 until 2pm Friday. They grant access to both days. Entry for the Friday only will be £10 on the door, while availability lasts. Priority will be given to weekend ticket holders. 2 day tickets will also be available on the door at £25.
