DOOM The Dark Ages (2025) Review:

✅ Varied combat style
✅ Like Eternal, gameplay resource management is fun
✅ Ravager/skull weapon class
✅ Excellent 60FPS performance on PS5
✅ Slayer remains a badass
✅ Boss fights are fun
✅ Item hunting and secrets remains fun as hell
✅ Ties well into Doom (2016)
✅ Excellent animation quality
✅ Environment design and a lot of variety
✅ Varied weapons and addictive combat loop

❌ Easy bosses
❌ Short cliched/generic story
❌ Blurry low image quality on PS5
❌ Settings like Sharpening are broken/doesn't work
❌ Slayer's reaction at a loss was a bit too stoic
❌ Cyberdemon fights are reused a lot

While I loved TDA's new gameplay, I still prefer Eternal's kinetic action. The new gameplay is not at all slow as many complain, using the shield bash significantly increases gameplay speed, but if you choose to stay and fight like a camper the game, it does slow down as expected. I guess I expected a bit more from it, and aside from the gameplay changes, the game feels thin. The gameplay doesn't feel as Good as Eternal and less challenging as well. Good but not great, Doom Eternal still remains the best Doom.
