Saros is an excellent roguelite held back by DEI era story telling, poor story - especially the third act and an even worse main character. It suffers from all the issues with Western AAA game development portraying weak male characters with no redemptive qualities you're forced to hate and perfect Mary Sue female characters worth worshipping. It promotes narcissism and selfishness as "good" - very wrong messaging apt for a selfish brainwashed EU society. The game could've been far more grand in scale and explored ideas of cosmic horror like Dead Space, if it didn't wear it's messaging like a thorn on its head. Horribly missed the mark in storytelling, while excels in almost every other department like gameplay, graphics, music and world design. Like many Sony first party studios trying to copy The Last of Us, Saros falls flat in the story department but excels in its roguelite gameplay.

While I loved TDA's new gameplay, I still prefer Eternal's kinetic action. The new gameplay is not at all slow as many complain, using the shield bash significantly increases gameplay speed, but if you choose to stay and fight like a camper the game, it does slow down as expected. I guess I expected a bit more from it, and aside from the gameplay changes, the game feels thin. The gameplay doesn't feel as Good as Eternal and less challenging as well. Good but not great, Doom Eternal still remains the best Doom.

DOOM The Dark Ages (2025) Review:
✅ Varied combat style
