Stop reading spec sheets.

I'm serious. When was the last time knowing the input impedance of a pedal made you write a better riff?

We are drowning in data. We are obsessed with "transparent" tone, with gear that sounds like it was made in a lab. We’ve forgotten that the best rock and roll was made with crap that was about to catch fire.

Hubcap John sent me a box. It didn't come with a manual. It came with a threat. These aren't pedals; they are artifacts. Built in a shed, smelling of solder and UK rain, designed to do one thing: fight your guitar.

Forget the white-glove reviews. Forget the polite demos.

"Art You Can Step On (Vol. I)" drops shortly

Clear your schedule.

Down in the basement bunkers of Dalston, the walls sweat and the carpet smells like 50 years of spilled lager and tinnitus. This is the engine room of London music.
It’s also where I found Blind John.
He’s not interested in the polished, assembly-line perfection you see in Mayfair showrooms. He builds instruments with scars. With ghosts inside them. I spent the day tracking his 100th build—a Jazzmaster/335 hybrid that shouldn’t work, but sings like a bird.
Powered by Thomas Nilsen pickups (the same copper and magnets found in the rigs of Slash and Billy Gibbons), these things aren't just wood. They’re weapons.

Is modern gear too perfect? Does gear need to be broken to sound good? I think perfection is overrated. New video out now.
