UPDATE:
Constable Greg Wii formally apologized to Dr. Jimmy Aipit and paid compensation as mandated by the Madang District Court on February 18, 2025. During the trial, Wii pleaded guilty and sought to show remorse through reparations to Dr. Aipit, the Regina Avenue community, and the Engan community. The court ordered him to provide two life pigs, K1,000 in garden food, and cash between K5,000 and K10,000.
In compliance with the court's ruling, Wii delivered two cows, a pig, K1,000 in garden food, and K12,600 in cash. Senior Sergeant Steven Etna of the Madang police emphasized the importance of serving and protecting all community members, regardless of their background. Town Mayor Peter Yalsy supported the peace ceremony mandated by the court, highlighting the need for harmony since Dr. Aipit and Wii live near each other.
Dr. Aipit expressed gratitude for the police's handling of the case but was disappointed by the lack of a trial and the exclusion of other affected individuals from the compensation. He raised concerns about Asila Security Services' non-response regarding others involved in the incident. Senior Constable Eugene Wanai, acting as mediator, advised that discussions should adhere to the court's decisions, and despite some dissatisfaction with the compensation, Dr. Aipit and his community accepted it to maintain peace.
