Painterly stylization in 3D comes with plenty of challenges, and one of the toughest of them is consistency. For us, that challenge has repeatedly centered on cast shadows. Perfect, precisely rendered shadows that project a detailed silhouette onto a backdrop can go a long way toward ruining an otherwise beautifully painterly vibe.

After trying different workarounds for Wing It and Project Gold, we finally landed on a shadows treatment for Overgrown that blends seamlessly into a painterly environment.
