Back in the Loft! 🌞🚂
After more than a week of incredible temperatures here in the UK, I’m very happy to be back up in the loft and making progress on the layout build again.
This morning the temperature up here is a much more modeller-friendly 17.5°C – absolutely perfect for track laying, wiring, and getting stuck back into some long-overdue jobs.
It’s amazing how much more enjoyable modelling is when you’re not working in what feels like a sauna! Time to make the most of the cooler conditions and see how much progress can be made today.

🚧 Progress in the Heat! 🚧
Managed to grab an hour in the loft this morning before it got too hot to work comfortably.
Today’s job was connecting this non-scenic corner where the lines curve round into the double junction. It’s one of those areas that won’t get much attention when the layout is finished, but getting the track alignment right here is absolutely critical for reliable operation.
Working behind the roof trusses and metal truss straps has made it an incredibly fiddly task, with access being far more challenging than the trackwork itself! Still, steady progress is being made and it’s another section moving closer to completion.
Sometimes the least glamorous parts of a layout are the ones that take the most patience!

☀️ Modelling on Hold! ☀️
Yesterday the temperature in the attic railway room hit a staggering 43.9°C as the UK heatwave pushed temperatures to extreme levels. Safe to say there was no modelling getting done up there! 🥵
The loft has officially become less “model railway room” and more “Class 37 engine bay” 😅
Hopefully things cool down soon so work can resume on the layout — until then it’s a case of staying cool, protecting the models, and admiring the railway from a safe distance! 🚂🔥

A little detail some of you may not have noticed… 👀
I rotate the banner images on the channel every week to feature different locos and moments from the layout build.
This week’s banner star is the stunning newly arrived Accurascale Class 37 — 37418 in its vibrant Loram Rail red, white & black livery 🔴⚪⚫
Definitely one of the most eye-catching locos on the layout at the moment and it looks superb in motion too!
