Accurascale acquires Heljan!
Interesting discussion this. Looking at it purely from a business perspective, I can absolutely see why Accurascale would consider this move with Heljan.
Accurascale have built a strong premium reputation with high-quality, detail-led models and a loyal following through their direct-to-consumer approach. If they can bring Heljan in as a more accessible, everyday brand—positioned at a sharper price point—and also sell D2C, then removing retailer margins gives them much more control over pricing and customer experience. On paper, it’s a very smart, strategic play.
The uncomfortable truth is that the high street has been struggling for years, and buying habits have shifted massively online. Model railway shops are part of that wider trend, and unless they’ve got a strong online presence, it’s hard to see how they compete long term.
Sad in many ways, as we all value good local model shops—but this feels like the direction the market is heading. Change is happening whether we like it or not.

SHED Announcement!
New Loco due to arrive on the layout this week. Freightliner Class 66 66414 has begun it's route and will be arriving on the layout later this week. This loco will be the first one to be based at the forthcoming TMD which will be losely based on the Midland Rd Freightliner depot in Leeds, West Yorkshire, (images Accurascale)
