“He fought and died to protect a town that hated him.” You might remember this quote from season four of stranger things. For the purpose of this post I’m changing it to
“He fought and died to protect a world that hated him.” If you’re not familiar with this man his name is Jesus Christ. He came down to earth, was born humble in a stable. He began preaching the word of God at 12 years old. When he was 33 he went to pray in the garden of gethsemane, there, he was captured by pilots guards, he didn’t fight back he let them take him away. He was whipped and a crown of thorns was placed on his head as a mockery. He carried a heavy cross up a large hill as the whole city watched him struggle. When he reached the top he was striped of his clothing and placed on a wooded cross, nails were driven through his hands and his feet. The crowd mocked him heavily. Vinegar was placed on his cuts. Even through all this pain and agony he said “Father forgive them, for they know not what they’re doing.” Jesus breathed his last breath and when he died, the curtain in the temple ripped in 2. Jesus descended to the realm of hades until he resurrected 3 days later. Even in a world that hated him, a world that persecuted him, a world that KILLED him, he still died for you and me. Because he loved us so much he was willing to suffer terrible pain just to rescue rebels. How amazing is that? He died just because his love for us was so great that even if we hated him,hurt him, or wanted to kill him, he still loved us! Now you may not believe in him. But he believes in you.
What’s a film with fascinating concepts that was poorly executed?
I’ll go first.
“In time” This popular movie created in 2011 offered this idea: In the near future, time is the literal currency. People stop aging at 25, and they must work to earn more time to live, while the rich live forever and the poor die young. Now this was a high-concept premise that I was very interested in!
But now the problem: The film quickly devolved into a generic action movie with clichéd dialogue and lack of character chemistry, COMPLETELY abandoning the socio-political exploration the concept promised it made me really mad!!!
