Greg's Airplanes and Automobiles

If you are looking for technical information about historical Airplanes and Automobiles, this is the right channel for you.

My name is Greg, and I am a life long aircraft and automotive enthusiast, and I work professionally in both fields.

The aviation side of this channel has a heavy focus on WW1 and WW2 aircraft, although I will occasionally touch on jets. My automotive focus is largely on Italian cars and Muscle cars, but I like almost all cars. Since I have an all wheel drive dyno in my shop near Tulsa I will frequently use it in videos.

RV video. So, I'm required to put up a video about RV rental for tax purposes. I'll talk about the RV itself and economics of a rental RV vs. a rental car and hotels. Plus we did hit the USAF museum in Dayton, Old Rhinebeck, Ft. Ticonderoga and more.

I guess if you don't want to hear about the pros and cons of a Cruise America RV rental, then don't watch it, but I promise to make it at least somewhat interesting. I should have this up either late today or tomorrow.

The sponsor for the D8 video has been axed. The video will go up within a couple hours.

So I was at the Dragstrip yesterday getting times for the latest tune on my 2024 EcoBoost Mustang and I ran into a youtube automotive celebrity.

I saw a guy behind me in the staging lanes standing next to a 2nd Gen "Camaro" and he looked familiar. I approached him and he turned out to be Eric Weingartner who is a pretty big deal in the V8 world. I didn't get to talk to him much, but he seemed like a great guy, pretty much the same guy you see in his videos. He was even wearing the same hoodie he is wearing in the video below. It's a pretty good video and he does a good job explaining the traction issues everyone was having on this day.

His point about traction yesterday was exactly right. I had two good runs and then not a single good launch because of the track getting wet from exhaust.

If you leave him a comment, mention that you found him from my link.

I just watched the movie Nuremberg. The short version is, the movie itself is just OK, but Russell Crowe did an amazing job playing Hermann Goering. Maybe I should start doing movie reviews on my channel to combat the AI onslaught within the aircraft and history genres on youtube. Never mind, I'm not going to do that, other than maybe a top ten list here and there.

My P-63 video just cracked 100,000 views, but needs another 20,000 in the next week to fully fulfill the sponsor's wishes. It doesn't look like that's going to happen. I put up shorts to try and boost it, but that didn't really work. On a personal level, I'm proud of that video so I'm fine with the views it has. It's also been well recieved by you folks, which really makes me happy.

The D8 video is up next. It's sponsored by a WW1 game. You might find me on IL2 flying it on the Berloga server trying to get some footage. Any of you that come and shoot me down might be immortalized in a video.

I'm close to putting up the next video. It's a bit different for this channel in that it's more about the man than the machine. The man is a relatively unknown WW2 ace. The machine in this case is the P-47 as it was this man's weapon of choice.

We get a bit into the duality of man in this one. There are people who can be a stone cold killer in one aspect of their life and a compassionate friend of humanity in another. A Jekyll and Hyde sort of thing. For those who didn't read the book, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde were the same person.

This isn't going to be a regular thing, but I just felt the need to make a video about a pilot for once rather than being all about the plane, although of course there is still stuff about the planes.

P.S. the preview video for this one is up ad free in the Patreon section.

A couple updates, I know the Shorts are a bit irritating when you have already seen the full video. I get that, but I have to put them up to try to attract a wider audience for the main video.

That said, I do wish my P-63 video would do a bit better, so I'll be putting up a new short in support of it today. Ideally it needs to have 120k views in 30 days to please the sponsor. It does not look like it's going to make it. Any help you can give would be appreciated. In retrospect I should probably only take sponsors on popular well known airplanes, however in this case the timing made that impossible.

On that subject, I have a sponsored video coming on a WW1 airplane. The sponsor specifically wanted a WW1 airplane as they produce a WW1 game.

The next video is about a little known, but very interesting P-47 pilot. His exploits are the stuff of legend and I'm excited to tell the story. I don't cover the human side of things here all that often, but I will say that I think one of the most interesting things about war is that it brings out both the best and worst in people. In the case I'll be talking about, we see both of those things.

The P-63 video is premiering at noon central time today about an hour and 15 mins from now. I'll be on line to answer questions in chat if needed.

This is a sponsored video, so there will be a big ad for World Of Warships. I do add some actual historical info into that add to keep it interesting. At least I think the stuff I put in in interesting, you guys will let me know.

Please stay until the end because I use some of the footage from that game to talk about more naval trivia relating to WW2 destroyers that you may find interesting and you likely have not read or heard about before unless you served on one of these ships.

As for the P-63 there is a lot there to talk about. I already covered the engine in a previous video on the Two-Stage Allison, so this video is more on the development, performance, misconceptions, and the plane's actual record as a warplane. Some moments relating to the cold war will be controversial, but are absolutely true. I tried to keep that part light and family friendly. I'm sure you guys will let me know how I did.

Anyhow, I'm looking forward to reading your comments.

Three updates that I think are exciting or at least relevent.

My P-63 video is coming along well. I hope it can come out this week and I'm confident it will be one of my best videos ever in terms of information and quality. We just don't hear a lot about the P-63 and a lot of what we do hear is misleading, like performance specs based on non combat versions. It's a sponsored video as well, so I'm hoping for a good number of views, but I just never know.

On the subject of views. I need to clear this up. The Shorts are an attempt to get more viewers to the channel. They are IN NO WAY taking time away from my normal content. That's because my Grandson Max is making the shorts. He is also learning as he goes, I think the second batch of shorts will be better than the first. After that batch, I'll run the numbers and see if that's something I want to continue with, but either way it does not take away from the main content.

I may actually have a debate coming up with another youtuber. I hope it happens. I don't want to say who it is just yet because we are still in the taking stage. The person is a legit aviation youtuber and the topic will be Who Invented the Airplane? I'm taking the Wright Brothers side.

I'm not so sure this shorts thing is working out. Time will tell. So far, absolutely no extra revenue and no increase in the rate of subscribers. There is one more Spiteful video to come, then I'll probably do one more round of shorts to decide for sure if they are worth it or not.

I will have the P-63 video up this week for the US Navy's 250th anniversary. I think you folks will like it and I did manage some naval tie ins with the P-63. It's shaping up to be one of my best videos ever.

Every now and then, I see a youtuber making a video about youtube. I don't really plan to do that, but I do feel the frustration. Youtube, which is largely operated by AI is now prioritizing videos made by AI. It's much like robots pushing down the humans in support of robots. The AI videos on aircraft are poor and full of errors, but there are so many of them that they are able to prevent human made videos from showing up in people's feed. Or if they do show up, they show up alongside 5 AI videos on the subject thus the odds are not with the human creator. The other problem is that a lot of "viewers" now are also bot accounts.

I'm working on a strategy to combat this, but right now, I don't have any great answers. My channel is doing OK, but I see others suffering. The "Not a Pound for Air to Ground" channel was recently flagged for take down based on a ridiculous accusation from the AI overlord. He was accused of using a copyrighted video from 1927! That same overlord allows AI channels to flat out steal 1 day old content from human creators. It's a problem.
