What Yahawasha appears to be emphasizing

Yahawasha isn’t defining a “true Israelite” merely by saying Nathanael possesses Israelite ancestry, nor does the text say ancestry is irrelevant. Nathanael is explicitly called an Israelite. The additional statement concerns what kind of Israelite Yahawasha sees standing before him:

“an Israelite indeed” + “no deceit.”

In other words, covenant identity and covenant character are being brought together.

Isaiah 1:3 is especially powerful because the surrounding chapter is a covenant indictment against Israel, not merely a general statement about ignorance:

“The ox knoweth his owner, and the ass his master’s crib: but Israel doth not know, my people doth not consider.” — Isaiah 1:3, KJV

The comparison is deliberate. An ox recognizes the one who owns and cares for it, and a donkey recognizes the place where its master feeds it. Yet YAHAWAH declares that His covenant people had become less discerning concerning Him than domesticated animals.

Your point about the scattering can then be connected to later covenant passages. Deuteronomy 28:64 foretells Israel being scattered “among all people,” while Deuteronomy 30:1–3 describes Israel remembering the covenant while among the nations and being gathered again. Baruch 2:30–31 makes the idea even more explicit: in captivity, Israel would “remember themselves” and “know that I am YAHAWAH their Ahlahayam.”

So the prophetic pattern can be presented as:

Covenant rebellion → scattering → loss of covenant awareness → remembering → returning to YAHAWAH.

That gives Isaiah 1:3 considerably more depth: the tragedy is not merely that Israel forgot who they were; they failed to recognize whose they were. Their restoration therefore begins not simply with ethnic identification, but with remembering YAHAWAH, His covenant, and His commandments.
