The Dubai Fountain is now undergoing its most extensive renovation since its debut. Launched in April/May 2025, the five-month programme focuses on upgrades to waterproofing, sound, lighting, and choreography to enhance future performances.
A significant enhancement is a new flooring system—the old base had developed cracks, necessitating a more durable, water-resistant foundation. The replacement includes treated concrete blocks, waterproofing layers, insulation, and a primer, topped with glowing blue tiles that add a striking visual element beneath the water.
With sections of the basin already refilled, testing is underway. Could the Dubai Fountain be making a comeback sooner than expected? Recent social media clips showing the Downtown Dubai landmark refilled with water sparked speculation that the world’s largest choreographed fountain might reopen ahead of schedule. However, developer Emaar has dismissed the rumours. In a statement to Gulf News on August 22, 2025, the company clarified:

Check out the latest updates on the spectacular water fountain attraction The Dubai Fountain after its recent closure, The Dubai Fountain is temporarily closed to carry out more spectacular renovations/updates by displaying future technology, adding a different impression, especially on Emaar NYE 2026. The water at The Dubai Fauntain has been drained and renovations have begun for 5/6 months, There are many closures at the Dubai Fauntain.
While the world's largest show fountain is closed, Emaar has introduced new measures to enhance the visitor experience in the area around Dubai Mall and Burj Khalifa. The area around Dubai Mall and Souk Al Bahar is one of the most popular places for visitors to the city as it offers beautiful views of the Burj Khalifa and the Dubai Fountain show. Emaar, the property developer behind the Dubai Mall and Burj Khalifa, will install 500 metres of state-of-the-art digital screens along the promenade while work is underway on the Dubai Fountain.
In addition to the state-of-the-art screens, Emaar has also announced that rent for 50 food and beverage spots with lake and fountain-facing terraces will be waived for four months between June and September. The affected terrace spaces are likely to experience a decline in footfall while upgrades are put in place at the Dubai Fountain.
Guests at restaurants in the area surrounding the Dubai Fountain would normally have an incredible view of the attraction’s nightly shows against the backdrop of the world’s tallest building. While there will still be great views of the city and its most iconic building, the property developer is supporting its tenants during the temporary closure.
