I Recently post videos about visiting a town I never knew existed in Bénin , before this journey, I honestly had never heard of Lobogo. 😂

And that’s one of the things I’m beginning to love about exploring Benin.

You think you know a place, then you start travelling beyond the familiar cities and suddenly you’re discovering towns and communities you didn’t even know existed.

Lobogo was one of those places for me.

I went there because I wanted to explore the market, but I ended up discovering the town itself and the people living there.

And it made me wonder… how many other places in Benin have I never even heard of? 👀🇧🇯

That’s what makes this journey exciting for me.

NOTES FROM THE ROAD 🇧🇯

Before I started exploring the outskirts of Benin, one of the things I was honestly worried about was the language barrier.

I kept wondering, “How am I going to communicate with people in these smaller communities when I don't speak much French?” 😂

But surprisingly, I've met quite a number of people in some of the villages I've visited who speak English!
And sometimes, I'm even more surprised when I hear someone speaking English in a place I didn't expect it. 😂

It's made me realize that maybe the language barrier isn't as big as I imagined it would be when exploring beyond the cities.
Of course, it doesn't mean everyone speaks English, but this experience has definitely made me feel more confident about going further and meeting people in different communities.

One thing I'm learning from this trip: sometimes the things you're worried about before a journey turn out not to be as big a problem as you imagined. ❤️

One thing exploring Atlantic Department is teaching me is that the internet doesn’t always tell the whole story.

Before visiting a place, I can research it online, make a list of things I want to see and even have an idea of what the experience will be like.

But when you actually arrive, things can be very different.

Sometimes the places you read about are difficult to find. Sometimes people don’t know them by the name you found online. And sometimes what you discover instead is something you never planned for.

I’m learning to leave room for the unexpected.

Because sometimes, that’s where the real story begins. 🌍🇧🇯

I've lived in Benin for years, but exploring beyond Cotonou is showing me a completely different side of the country.

Different communities. Different lifestyles. Different stories.

Today, we celebrate the rich history, culture, resilience, and incredible people of Benin.

Over the years, I've had the privilege of living and exploring different cities and communities across this beautiful country, and every journey has given me a deeper appreciation for its traditions, hospitality, and unique way of life.

I left home hoping to see more of West Africa.
I returned with a completely different perspective on people, culture, borders, community, and what it means to be connected.
