First generation homesteaders, self taught...
We are gaining real life skills, experiences and understanding as a family!

Homesteading is a lifestyle centered on self-sufficiency, rooted in subsistence farming, food preservation, and manual labor to meet household needs.
Homesteading was just living to our ancestors. In today's homesteading, it's an intentional, voluntary return to producing one's own resources and developing self-reliant skills.

Bought land to start producing and supplying the need for our family. Big goals to not be so reliant on someone else for our food securities. We raise chickens, goats, meat rabbits and pigs, each animal has their own specific purpose here.
We would like to improve our gardening skills and possibly raise bees for honey and wax.

Paine

Sandwich bread recipe (yeast version):
2 ¼ cup warm water (between 100-110f degrees)
4 ½ teaspoons quick active yeast
¼ cup sugar
¼ cup oil or softened butter
1 Tablespoon salt
6 ½ cups flour

Combine warm water, yeast and sugar to activate yeast.
Once it's frothy on top, add all other ingredients.
Knead or use mixer for 5-10 minutes.

Rise for an hour before shaping into greased pans.
Tip for handling the dough and shaping, oil your hands, surface and utensils. Way easier to shape and roll.
Rise again for 20 minutes while oven preheats to 500.
DO NOT bake at 500, we are only preheating.

Once hot, reduce temp to 375.
Bake on lower rack for 25-30 minutes.
Once golden and baked, slather with butter 🤤

Paine

Biscuit recipe:
2 cups all purpose flour
1 Tablespoon baking powder
1 Tablespoon sugar or honey
1 teaspoon salt
6 tablespoons salted butter, very cold grated
¾ cup whole milk

Mix dry ingredients before adding the grated, very cold butter. Mix well before adding the milk to combine into a dough.

Roll out onto a floured surface and use a cookie cutter or mason jar to make your biscuits.
Huge tip: when pressing down to cut the biscuits, do not twist the cutter, press down firmly.

Arrange them on a parchment lined pan. Bake at 425 for 12-15 minutes depending on size and doneness preferences.
Once done, brush with melted butter and ENJOY!
