"Sveti Valentin ima ključ od korenin." (Saint Valentine has the key of roots.) Presumably, plants and flowers start growing on Valentine's Day and we welcome back spring!
Unlike in North America, Valentine's Day celebrations in Slovenia are largely centered around romantic love.
Here is the Valentine's Day related vocabulary and if you need help with pronunciation, you can watch a short here: www.youtube.com/shorts/hfoBCH...
Danes praznujemo Prešernov dan - slovenski kulturni praznik, v počastitev obletnice smrti pesnika Franceta Prešerna (1800-1849). Prešeren velja za največjega slovenskega pesnika in je avtor besedila slovenske himne. Na Prešernov dan in skozi celoten februar - mesec kulture, potekajo številne kulturne prireditve povsod po Sloveniji.
Today we celebrate Prešeren's Day - the Slovenian cultural holiday, in honor of the anniversary of death of poet France Prešeren (1800-1849). Prešeren is deemed to be the greatest Slovenian poet and is the author of the text of Slovenian anthem. On Prešeren's Day and during the whole February - the month of culture, there are many cultural events taking place everywhere around Slovenia.
Srečno novo leto 2024! (Happy New Year 2024!) Želim vam veliko zdravja, ljubezni, veselja in uspehov! (I wish you lots of health, love, happiness and success!)
Here is vocabulary on drinks. Verb "piti" (to drink) is followed by the fourth case (accusative). This means that in the case of feminine nouns the suffix -a changes into -o. Similarly, if you want to order a drink, you have to use the fourth case. For example: Želim vodo (I want water); Želim piti kokakolo (I want to drink coca-cola); Pil/a bom sok (I will drink juice).
