Fat Earth Studios is a Godot game development channel where I share tutorials based on the projects I'm building.
I spent 10 years writing software in the aerospace industry, and now I'm using that experience to make games and help other developers avoid some of the headaches I ran into along the way.
If you are learning Godot, making your first real project, or trying to level up beyond beginner tutorials, this channel is for you.
Topics include:
• Godot development tips for larger projects
• Game architecture, scene organization, and scalable systems
• Animation, physics, Enemy behavior, tools, and workflow improvements
• Common problems that can quietly kill a project
• Practical lessons from building a full game
New videos include deep dives into specific systems and lessons learned from developing real projects.
Subscribe if you want to build better games in Godot.

Here’s a little preview of what I’ve been working on.
I may have gotten a little carried away, in my attention to detail. Added a few unnecessary flourishes...
Weeell, there’s no point trying to hide it. Yes. It’s taken longer than expected.
I’ve been working on the top-down level transitioning into a battle arena, building a couple of spell effects, and experimenting with letting those spells affect the battlefield. And potentially leave their mark on the world after the battle is over.
Now that the pieces are coming together, the next video is finally taking shape. There’s still some work left, but I’m hoping to have it ready within the next couple of weeks.
I'll also be returning to streaming next week, where I'll be working on this and more.
Back to work, hero.

Going live in about 30 minutes!
Today I'll be building the first explorable area of my Godot game, working through the scene composition section by section, experimenting with TileMapLayers and Terrain, and prototyping the level transition into the current cliffside map.
Come hang out, ask questions, and watch the world take shape!

The latest video is live!
It is about how the each level is set up to communicate to the main game through an abstract base class, and it also uncovers a subtle bug in what seemed like a reasonable instantiate() call.
I also break down the poll results and discuss the ultimate direction of the project and the design decisions that come with it.

After all the discussion around the latest video, it's time to make the final decision!
What type of game should our vertical slice be?
If you're still undecided, the latest video lays out what each direction could look like.
Vote here, then make your case in the video comments.
