Who says retirement means slowing down?
My partner and I are proving it is possible to live life to the fullest, even being over 60!
We have traded in traditional routines by living off-grid while also heading out on the road in our trusty camper Lote.
Join us as we explore and explain our off-grid home living in Portugal and travel adventures around Europe.
Finding freedom in simplicity and comfort, we will talk about chemical-free living, solar syms, cars, campers & life.
Come along for the ride, and let's make the most of this crazy thing called life!

Beyond the Curbs

Oleiros, Condaixa, Santa comba Dao, and Conheis, this was a great trip, we had a surprise visit to the vet in Condaixa, heading back off we went to Santa comba Dau, I have to say this was a lovely little town.
We parked on the approved parking area and had the emergency helicopter flying over us for quite a while.
From Santa comba Dau we went to Conhais, another very nice spot in a very isolated spot, Jen drove to Conhais and the drive through very narrow streets was crazy with some very tight spots to drive through.

If you havent seen my plastic welding of our front bumper then have a look, I have the video listed below, I have to say this worked really well and has greatly improved the strength and stability of the front bumper.

Beyond the Curbs

After missing a few posts here I thought it would be a good idea to do a little update, I have completed a couple of updates on our campervan.
A couple of easy jobs were successful in stopping some rattles on the camper. Its amazing just how noisy some little bits can be, for example the plastic cover over the external vent for the fridge, this was easily fixed with a little piece of insulation sticky tape.
Our other little job was removing the bike rack from the rear of the camper, this made a big change, we never realised just how rattly that had been until it was removed.
We have also fitted a roof fan, 12 volt that fits into an original 40cm roof vent, this is working a treat to help vent and cool down the camper as the weather heats up in Portugal.

Beyond the Curbs

On our most recent campervan journey we headed south, our first stop was Intermarche Autocaravan service area at Golega, here we found the water supply service not working, so far not the best of starts to what turned out to be a great few days ahead.
Our next stop was Santarem where we paid a visit to the IMT office, here we waited for about 2 hours to be seen, only to be told, yes we need to wait longer for our vehicle Matricula information to be entered into the system. ohh well so be it.
From Santarem we headed across the Tagus River to Alpiarca, we parked here for 2 nights, beside the "baragem dos patudos" this was a very nice spot and we will definitely be back here.
From here on Saturday the 14th March we headed back across the Tagus River to Golega Municipal camping, this was a paid overnight stay that cost 8 euro including electricity hookup.
On Sunday we headed back over the river and parked up beside the River Tagus at a village called Arripiado, what a beautiful place indeed.

Beyond the Curbs

From "Puebla de Guzman" we then moved on with a relatively short drive to a town called "Portel" this does have a safe space for parking Campervans, beside the Bombeiros and GNR. There is also a big parking area nearby that looked fine, and the police said it was a good place to park for a night.
Even with Portel being ok for parking we just spent a few hours there and had lunch in a nice restaurant, we decided to move to a more isolated area beside "Barragem do Loureiro" this is slightly further north near to "Monte do Trigo"
We spent 1 night there beside the Barragem, we also managed to let Mo our black cat outside for a run around.
On Saturday morning we moved on to a town called "Montargil" parking in a nice spot beside the football ground.
Sunday morning we drove home via Ponte de Sor with a stop off in Bemposta to to use the camper drain facility. From here we stopped off at "Castelo de Almourol" beside the tagus and home on the small road to " Vila nova Barquina" home on Sunday the 1st March.
I have to say the route via "Montargil" and via the "Tagus" river is very nice and definitely worth a visit.

From the Algarve into Spain via, "Vila real de Santo Antonio" we then crossed over into Spain and headed to "Puebla de Guzman"
We paid 3 Euro for this official overnight parking, the parking had 1 free electric point (that was already in use) also toilet and waste water facility. Great spot for an overnight or 2.

We are now down in the Algarve, just outside Armacau de Pera", the site we are parked on is called "Camping Canelas. Normally we stay on legally free sites and use the Park for Night app to find places. This usually works very well but this time we decided to stay on a pay-per-night site with all facilities. The price is very reasonable as it is low season.

Beyond the Curbs

It is now monday the 23rd Feb, and we are on our way from Central Portugal heading South to the Algarve. We have stopped off in a little village called "Palma", this is where we will stay for the night. We are currently parked on a very nice, quiet street 50 metre from a little cafe. Looking forward to a quiet, restful night.
