Europe is to sign its "largest ever" trade deal with South America on Monday. Europe increases trade with South America whilst engaged in a Cold War with Russia at the same time, now where have we seen that one before?*

They say history doesn't repeat but it rhymes, and it certainly rhymes when the USA is expressing competition with Europe in 2025/26 in a similar fashion to the 1930s.** Ironically; of course, in the 1930s Europe was led by nationalists whilst America was lead by internationalists, today the ideological roles are seemingly reversed.

So what is the lesson of history that everyone should learn? The lesson is not "don't engage with aggressor nations as that is appeasement and appeasement is bad, you should always go to war with aggressor nations", the lesson is instead "might does in fact make right", which leads directly to "history is written by the victor". This means that when Europe was crushed by the righteous forces of Communist Russia and Capitalist America they could fob you off with rubbish like, "the war started because of the vile [German] and his villainous empire building", and not provide the real reason for the war being, "the war started because the United States saw the long term implications of Germany becoming a Great Power, uniting Europe and increasing trade competition in South American markets, and as a result of Britain's "appeasement" Foreign Policy, Roosevelt had to use threats and coercion against the British Government in order to push them into war with Germany". Make no mistake, there is little interpretation to be had when William Bullitt, Ambassador to France and a close adviser to Roosevelt, informs the Polish Ambassador on 5 February 1939, "the United States has at its disposal many means of pressure, and the threat to employ them would suffice to hold Britain back from a policy of compromise", and then informs Lukasiewicz on 25 March that he has instructed the U.S. Ambassador to Britain to bring Chamberlain's attention to these 'means of pressure'.

Neville Chamberlain was not an "appeaser", he was a realist; World War 2 was not his evil and cynical attempt to keep Germany down and secure British influence in Eastern Europe, it was the USA's preventative war to defend the Monroe Doctrine. I know a lot of people struggle to believe this given that Congress was isolationist and thus prevented Roosevelt from fully engaging in European affairs; however, there is such a thing as 'secret diplomacy' which Roosevelt and the State Department engaged in, particularly during the period of October 1938 to April 1939. By complete coincidence this period coincides with the two immediate causes of WW2: German-Polish negotiations (24 October 1938 to 5 May 1939) and Neville Chamberlain's sudden and surprising decision to conditionally declare war on Germany over Polish rights in Danzig (31 March 1939).

For an explanation using almost nothing but primary evidence, see the video on my channel "Did Roosevelt Cause World War 2?".

Relevant readings which were published within the last few days: 'Ending the Charade of Wasteful International Organizations' by the State Department and the Presidential Memorandum of 7 January 'Withdrawing the United States from International Organizations'. Interesting quote from this: "President Trump has been clear he will not allow international organizations to undermine the United States and limit our our economic prosperity", meaning the Trump admin likely sees the EU's deal with South America as a potential threat, given the EU's past and present demands to adhere to its rules and regulations in the negotiation of trade agreements. This aligns substantially with Roosevelt's views in 1939, as Harold Ickes wrote in his diary on 29 January 1939, "At Cabinet, the President pointed out that Hitler would not have to control all of Europe and South America in order to make it difficult for us economically. For example if Hitler can dominate the major part of Europe, he can bring pressure upon Argentina to conform with fascist principles and economics".

*The World in March 1939: Survey of International Affairs 1939-1946 by Arnold Toynbee, page 9-12, "The German Challenge to American Hegemony Over Latin America". Example quote: "These figures show that by the eve of WW2, the position of supremacy in the external trade of Latin America, which the USA had captured from Britain as a consequence of WW1, was being decidedly challenged by Germany".

**In October 1937 Roosevelt declared his opposition to European states in his infamous "quarantine speech" where he promoted the idea of using economic measures (sanctions and embargoes) against certain nations. Coincidentally, and I'm sure this had nothing to do with Roosevelt's speech, one month later Hitler gave a talk to his Generals, stating that Germany should aim to be an economically independent and self-sustaining nation, capable of withstanding economic aggression. The surviving record of this meeting is known as "The Hossbach Memorandum" and is used by Conformists to "prove" that German Policy caused, provoked and started World War 2; rather, as I point out, it is used by Conformists to deflect people away from U.S. Foreign Policy and British decision making in March 1939.
