Growing In The Garden

I help gardeners succeed–even in tough growing conditions.

Growing In The Garden

March Bucket List: Spring Has Arrived!⁣⁣ March is one of the best months in the low desert—everything is blooming, the weather is perfect, and the garden is thriving. Don't forget to enjoy what makes this season special.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
•Take pictures of the new growth and beauty in your garden—trust me, you’ll appreciate those pictures when the sun gets blazing.⁣⁣

• Rain’s been scarce, so wildflowers might be harder to find—but it’s worth the hunt. ⁣⁣

• If you aren’t growing your own blooms yet, local U-pick events are a fun substitute. Note which flowers you love and plan to plant them this fall. ⁣⁣

• Citrus season’s winding down—freeze, can, or otherwise save those flavors for when the fruit disappears.⁣⁣

• Dill, cilantro, parsley, fennel—they’re at their best now, so snip and savor before they bolt in warmer weather.⁣⁣

• Desert Botanical Garden and Boyce Thompson Arboretum both host spring plant sales this Month. Native plants thrive here—so why not add some to your yard?⁣⁣

• Bay grows surprisingly well here. If you have some, try making a wreath. (Instructions on my website.) It smells incredible (and doubles as seasoning)!⁣⁣

• This time of year, the smell of citrus blossoms hits me when I open my front door. There’s nothing like it. Bees love it, too!⁣⁣

•Tag your favorite local farmer's market below to share the love.⁣⁣ Wonderground Farm is an Arizona Gardener of the Month and worth a visit.

• Violas, calendula, and nasturtiums are lovely to look at and delicious in salads or drinks. Nasturtiums have a spicy kick—give them a try if you haven’t!⁣⁣⁣

What would you add to the list? Let me know how you’re making the most of March. ⁣

Check out my Bucket List highlight for more ideas, and don’t forget to share your adventures with #arizonabucketlist.⁣⁣
