I am an essential service worker. The Poverty Report shows single women like me are hurt the most by poverty in Toronto.
DAY 3 — Justice Frame This is not about charity it's about justice and solidarity for me, a Zimbabwe born Canadian facing homelessness after a job loss that was not my fault.
GoFundMe Update
No one should face homelessness after losing a job through no fault of their own.
This is why I’m asking for solidarity, not charity.
Every donation is an act of justice that keeps me housed.
This isn’t about pity — it’s about justice.
If you can donate or share today, thank you for standing with me.

I continue to advocate for worker dignity and systemic justice — even as I navigate my own crisis.
If you’re able to support my $2600 goal, I’m grateful. What I do for others I am now doing for myself.

Lazarus and the Rich Man.
Here’s a deeply personal meditation on Lazarus and the Rich Man—something meant to meet you where you are, not in generalities but in the quiet places of your own inner life. Let it unfold slowly, like someone speaking gently to your soul.
---
🌿 A Personal Meditation on Lazarus and the Rich Man
🕯️ Take a breath.
Let yourself arrive.
Let the noise of the day loosen its grip.
This meditation isn’t about the ancient story.
It’s about your story.
---
✨ 1. The Gate in Your Life
Imagine the gate—not as something in Jerusalem, but as something in your own heart.
Everyone has a gate.
Sometimes it’s the boundary between:
- what you show and what you hide
- who you help and who you avoid
- the parts of yourself you welcome and the parts you keep outside
Let yourself notice your gate.
Is it heavy? Guarded? Beautiful? Rusted?
Does it open easily, or only with effort?
You don’t need to fix anything.
Just notice.
---
✨ 2. Meeting Your Lazarus
Now imagine Lazarus—not as a stranger, but as someone who already exists in your life.
It might be:
- a person you’ve been too tired to deal with
- someone whose pain feels overwhelming
- someone you love but don’t know how to help
- someone you’ve drifted from
- someone you’ve judged
- someone you’ve forgotten
Or—this is important—
Lazarus might be a part of you.
A part that’s hurting.
A part that’s been ignored.
A part that’s been waiting at your gate for years.
Let yourself look at that Lazarus with tenderness.
Ask quietly:
What have I been walking past?
Who have I been walking past?
Let the answer come gently.
---
✨ 3. The Rich Man Within
There is a rich man in you too.
Not in the sense of money, but in the sense of:
- the parts of you that are strong
- the parts that are capable
- the parts that are comfortable
- the parts that stay busy so they don’t have to feel
These parts aren’t bad.
They’re just used to being in control.
Ask yourself:
Where have I become insulated?
Where have I stopped noticing what needs my compassion?
Again—no judgment.
Just awareness.
---
✨ 4. The Chasm
In the story, the chasm appears after death.
But in your life, the chasm is simply the distance between:
- what you know you want to be
and
- what you actually do
Between:
- the compassion you feel
and
- the compassion you act on
Between:
- the part of you that suffers
and
- the part of you that avoids suffering
Ask softly:
What small step could narrow that distance today?
Not a grand gesture.
Just one small bridge.
---
✨ 5. The God Who Sees Lazarus
Finally, rest in this truth:
God sees Lazarus.
God sees the one who is overlooked.
God sees the part of you that is overlooked.
God sees the people you struggle to see.
And God is not shaming you.
God is inviting you.
Inviting you to notice.
To soften.
To open the gate a little more than yesterday.
---
🌿 A Closing Whisper
`
God of the seen and unseen,
help me notice what I’ve been avoiding.
Help me welcome what I’ve kept outside.
Teach me to cross the small distances
that heal the chasms in my life.
Amen.
A Quiet Meditation on Lazarus and the Rich Man
🕯️ Begin by settling your breath.
Let the noise of the day soften.
Let your attention gather.
When you’re ready, imagine the scene Jesus describes.
---
✨ 1. The Gate
Picture a large, beautiful gate—solid, polished, impressive.
On one side is comfort, abundance, and ease.
On the other side is a man who has nothing.
Let yourself stand at that gate for a moment.
- What do you notice?
- Which side feels familiar?
- Which side feels uncomfortable?
Don’t judge your answers. Just notice.
---
✨ 2. Seeing Lazarus
Now imagine Lazarus.
Not as a symbol, but as a person.
A face.
A name.
A story.
A longing.
Let yourself look at him without turning away.
Ask gently:
Where is Lazarus in my life?
Who is the person I pass by—physically, emotionally, spiritually?
Sometimes Lazarus is someone outside us.
Sometimes Lazarus is a part of ourselves we’ve neglected.
Let that question rest in you.
---
✨ 3. The Rich Man’s Silence
Notice that the rich man never hurts Lazarus.
He simply never helps him.
His sin is not cruelty—it is indifference.
Let this question rise:
Where have I grown numb?
Where have I stopped noticing the suffering at my gate?
Let the question be an invitation, not an accusation.
---
✨ 4. The Great Chasm
In the story, a chasm appears after death.
But in life, the chasm was already there.
It was built slowly—
through habits,
through comfort,
through avoidance,
through forgetting to see.
Ask yourself:
What small bridge can I build today?
Not a grand gesture—just one step toward compassion.
---
✨ 5. God’s Tender Reversal
Finally, rest with this truth:
Lazarus is carried by angels.
The one the world ignored is held close by God.
Let that comfort you.
Let it challenge you.
Let it reshape how you see the people around you.
And how you see yourself.
---
🌿 Closing Prayer (if you want to use it)
`
God of the gate and God of the street,
open my eyes to the ones I overlook.
Soften what has grown hard in me.
Teach me to cross the small distances
that become great chasms when ignored.
Give me the courage to see Lazarus,
and the humility to be Lazarus when I need help.
Amen.
