Sharing the things I thought someone would have told me before my BDS journey ✨

1. )Don’t assume BDS is “easy compared to MBBS.”🧠🤯
First year is heavily theory-based (medicine-oriented), while later years focus more on clinical practice.

2.) From 2nd/3rd year onwards, you’ll start working with patients.🗣️🦷🦠
Skills in tooth extractions, restorations, scaling, prosthesis, and oral radiographs are mandatory.

3.) Manual dexterity and patience are crucial.✍️⌚🦾
The final year internship is hands-on and decides how confident you become in clinics.

4.) Choosing a right college is must because good colleges will let you handle a wide range of cases, which shapes your career. 👥

5.)Financial Investment is High 💸💰🏦( apart from tuition fees)
Government college fees are affordable (10k–1 lakh/year).
Private colleges can charge 4–8 lakhs/year, plus instruments, materials, and exam fees.

Setting up a clinic later also requires ₹5–20 lakhs investment minimum.

6.) India has a large number of BDS graduates every year, so jobs are limited.😢🦷
Success often depends on skills, networking, and specialization (MDS) rather than just having a degree.
Dentistry requires scientific knowledge + artistic hand skills (e.g., carving teeth in wax, fabricating crowns, aesthetic restorations).

7.)If you’re not patient with fine manual work, it can be frustrating
Dentistry can be rewarding if you genuinely enjoy patient care, precision work, and continuous learning.

If you chose BDS only as a “backup to MBBS,” motivation might be low and career growth harder.
