🎨✨ Let’s talk about one of the most fun parts of coloring—the tools! When I first started my coloring journey, I wasn’t sure how long I would stick with it, so I wasn’t ready to splurge on expensive supplies right away. I started with a budget-friendly set of Amazon Basics colored pencils—72 colors for less than $15. This set gave me a wide range of colors to experiment with as a beginner, and I loved using it to explore different shades. But, I quickly realized that it took me forever to finish a page! Here’s a look at the first page I’ve colored since middle school—so many memories!

Then, I heard amazing things about alcohol markers. People said the colors were more vibrant, they helped you color much faster, and the brush tips were flexible for smoother strokes. I decided to take a leap and make my biggest coloring investment ever—an Ohuhu 120 marker set, which cost almost $100! And let me tell you—it was worth every penny. Now, my collection has grown to about 240 markers, and I consider them an investment in my business, as I create content around coloring and my own books.

But for those of you starting out, I’d recommend a smaller set—48 markers should be more than enough to have fun with and still get amazing results, and it costs around $50. Alcohol markers are perfect for your base colors, but I also use other tools to add details and highlights:

🖍️ Gel Pens: I use a set of 48 gel pens from Colorit. They’re super affordable (less than $30!) and even come with refills for every single color. They’re great for those tiny details that make your page pop.

🎨 Acrylic Paint Pens: These are my go-to for highlights because the opaque ink really makes the colors stand out. They’re perfect for adding those final touches that bring a page to life.

Now that I’ve been on this journey for a while, my collection has grown as my commitment and skill level have improved. But it didn’t happen overnight—just like anything, it took time to find what worked best for me. The beauty of coloring is that you can start small and watch your creativity grow!
