This April marks 40 years since Bronski Beat released their single with Marc Almond of Soft Cell, "I Feel Love." Originally a hit for Donna Summer, the full version of Bronski Beat’s rendition was a medley, incorporating parts of Summer’s "Love to Love You Baby" and John Leyton’s "Johnny Remember Me." We had them live in our studio on 22 April 1985 and have more Bronski Beat clips on our channel. Enjoy!

In April 1985, forty years ago, Dead Or Alive had a worldwide hit in the charts with the song "You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)". The single was co-written by frontman Pete Burns. Dead Or Alive originated from the former band Nightmares In Wax (1980) but the sound transformed from gothic post-punk to New Wave. Pete Burns said in his biography: “How did I write You Spin Me Round? I was listening to "I Wanted Your Love by Luther Vandross. It doesn't have the same chord progression, but that’s how I make music – I hear something and sing a different melody over it. And there was another record, by Little Nell, called "See You Round Like a Record". So I had those two – Vandross and Little Nell – and voilà, done!” The single reached number one in the UK and earned Dead Or Alive a platinum record.
