I'm excited to share a dense and super valuable devlog from @seyff367! He went from following GDQuest’s gamedev curriculum to building his own 2D platformer completely on his own.
In the video, he breaks down his journey: from setting personal rules to balance life, work, and gamedev... all the way to designing his character, building his controller, and creating levels using GDQuest's course modules as a launchpad. He even shares some honest mishaps along the way (like forgetting to commit an entire level. Ouch! 😅).
We're so thankful to see creators still sharing their experience, inspirations, and useful resources with the community, not for sponsorship but just for the pleasure of giving back.
It's also incredibly rewarding to see GDSchool, our learning platform, deliver on its promise of helping aspiring devs gain the skills to create independently.
Meanwhile, here at GDQuest, we're hard at work refining our course lessons and preparing to launch our Free Library of tools, assets, and learning resources for you all.
👉 Please take a moment to check out @seyff367’s channel and give his video a thumbs up! A playable demo of his dark fantasy 2D Game: The Tower to God should be available soon on ginkgogames.itch.io/
What nickname/sobriquet would you give to Godot 4.2? We debated it for a while before choosing this one. Any guesses why? (Going forward we'll be coming up with a nickname/appellation for every new release)!
Got questions about Godot we can answer in 5 minutes max? Ask away!
It's more personal and more laid back than the main GDQuest channel, more like a support channel where we keep the answers for everyone else to browse.
After a couple of months working on the free and open-source app to learn GDScript (github.com/GDQuest/learn-gdscript/), we're looking to make videos again. What would you like to see on the channel? What would you like to learn in Godot? What do you struggle with the most?
Our Free and Open-Source app for beginners to learn GDScript is in beta! It's an app like FreeCodeCamp, Codecademy, and the likes, but made with Godot and for GDScript. The first early access version is out in beta here: gdquest.github.io/learn-gdscript/ You can find the source code, report issues, and learn how to contribute here: github.com/GDQuest/learn-gdscript/
The two Godot developers we hired already made important contributions: - Revamped editing for Control (user interface) nodes. - Proposal and prototype for side drawers in the viewport (like Blender's side drawers). - Greatly improved interaction in the animation graph editor. All the details and links to pull requests are here: www.gdquest.com/news/2021/11/contributions-to-godo…

If you want to see the people making Godot and hear about their vision, @emi_cpl made a great short documentary about them.
We're looking forward to more videos like this!

Another question that comes back is what file structure should I use for Godot projects? You'll find Nathan's answer on youtube.com/@GDQuestQA
