A multi-faceted genius, he combined deep spirituality with literary brilliance, composing devotional hymns, songs (Borgeets), dramas, and philosophical works that continue to shape Assamese culture and religious life.
His most famous work is the Naam Ghosa (also called Hazari Ghosa or "Book of a Thousand Couplets"), a sacred text containing 1,001 devotional verses praising Lord Krishna. This work is considered as significant as Sankardev's Kirtan Ghosa and explains the core principles of Ekasarana Dharma, including complete devotion to God, surrender, and rejection of caste discrimination and meaningless rituals. An English translation titled The Divine Verses was published by Soroj Kumar Dutta in 1997.
Madhavdev composed 191 Borgeets (noble songs), establishing this music genre alongside Sankardev. These devotional songs, set to classical ragas and talas, remain integral to Namghar worship and Assamese cultural life.
Like Sankardev, Madhavdev taught the rejection of caste discrimination and meaningless rituals. His teachings emphasized that devotion, not birth or ritual purity, determines one's spiritual worth. This made the movement inclusive and accessible to all sections of society
