The 2026 BWF World Championships had the most unpredictable men's singles we've ever seen.

Some of the widely regarded favorites like Shi Yu Qi, Kunlavut Vitidsarn, Anders Antonsen, and Christo Popov all got knocked out early.

We thought Chou Tien Chen was about to win it all and then he too dropped to a resurging Kodai Naraoka.

But despite all the close matches between all the top players, the world championship finals looked like a comfortable win for Alex Lanier.

So many upsets at the 2026 BWF World Championships already! A lot of people predicted world number #1 Shi Yu Qi to win it all but he has been taken out in the first round by 21-year-old Ayush Shetty.

It was absolutely insane as Ayush Shetty had actually led 17-6 at one point in the third game before Shi Yu Qi mounted a comeback. He ultimately lost 21-19 and it was well played by both players nonetheless.

Who managed the drift better? Chou Tien Chen or Lin Chun Yi?

When a venue is drifty, and/or the shuttle is hard to control, the game, at least in singles, tends to become more scrambly. This means faster and flatter pushes, especially from the one playing with the drift. But what does this mean for who comes out on top?

Chou tends to be at his best when the game becomes fast-paced and scrambly. This is when he can best use his physical, using his explosiveness to cutoff flat lifts His game is literally built to punish flat pushes and engage in these types of rallies.

Lin is the opposite. He has a certain rhythm that he wants to play. And honestly, one of his biggest strengths is his high quality pushes, as we saw in slower venues like the All England. When the rhythm holds, it looks clean. When the drift breaks it, the lift is actually where he made the most mistakes: 8 of his 20 unforced errors came off a lift.

Chou Tien Chen on the other hand made an extremely low unforced rate of 28.6%. That's probably the lowest we have ever seen in all the matches we've tracked so far. So in our opinion, Chou Tien Chen was the one who managed the drift better. But we have to say that the drift was a little crazy this China Open. And our next video is exactly about this — "The Problem With China Open".

Thailand might have another top ten men's singles player soon. Super explosive player who made it to the finals of the 2026 Malaysia Masters, and interestingly enough, so did his brother in mixed doubles.

We've been seeing some comments about how he plays like Lin Dan, and Lin Chun Yi. And we have been watching his games, and we want to make an analysis on his run in the 2026 Malaysia Masters, specifically his games against Christo Popov and Li Shi Feng.

We were watching Hu Zhe An play Alex Lanier at the 2026 Malaysia Masters. After the first set, we honestly thought Lanier had this one. He didn't.

So we tracked the match on the GGAB app to see what actually happened:


• Alex Lanier practically lost to himself — 61% of the points he lost were unforced errors
• The longest rally was 41 shots, with the average being 11.2
• 63% of Hu Zhe An's winners came from smashes

Hey everyone!

Hope you're all doing great! I know in the last few weeks, there were fewer-than-usual videos for you to watch due to some scheduling issues with our team. Hopefully, things have been fixed now, and we should be back on track.

Now, the main reason we wanted to write this post was because in the last few weeks, and well, since we started making these videos, we've been getting many requests for videos on doubles. Rest assured, those videos are coming. They're just taking a bit (or perhaps I should say a lot) longer.

We've spent all our lives playing singles and not as much doubles, so we really wanted to take the extra time to analyze and learn to provide our best possible insight. Don't worry, we didn't forget about you.
