For days, he had been there abandoned and overlooked. When the neighbors threw out an old mattress, this gentle boy claimed it as his own. It became his shelter, his comfort, the only place where he felt safe. He curled himself tightly against it, guarding it with everything he had.

Whenever someone tried to help, fear took over. He would panic, run to the corner, circle back, and hide behind his mattress again. That was all he trusted.

On my drive more than an hour away I received devastating news. The trash company had come and taken his mattress. The one thing that made him feel safe was gone. They left behind a small pillow and some food the neighbors had offered, but it wasn’t the same. His sense of security had been taken from him.

When Rosario arrived, she found him curled up and sleeping beside where the mattress had been. Without it, he was lost. Confused. He began wandering the streets, pacing in circles, searching for the only comfort he had ever known.

I set up the trap as quickly as I could. He was so hungry that he went in almost immediately. The neighbors were overwhelmed with relief they had tried for days to help him, but he was simply too afraid.

Now that he’s safe, we can see how much he’s been suffering. He has a painful skin infection across his back. He’s covered in fleas. This sweet boy has endured far more than any dog ever should.

He is finally safe but he urgently needs medical care.

They didn’t slow down.
They didn’t look back.
She was thrown out of a moving car like garbage — her tiny body hitting the ground so hard she couldn’t even cry.

Shaking and broken, she dragged herself across the dirt…
until she found an old bag of sand.
That is where she curled up, alone, waiting for death.

People walked past her.
Hundreds… maybe thousands.
Not one person stopped.
Not one person cared that she was agonizing in her final breaths.

By the time we arrived, her breathing was shallow…

She’s only 4 months old and has had a very hard start to her life! It hurts to look at her, but we will help her. We named her Janine and we have scheduled her enucleation surgery for Monday. Reggie is only a year old, but already his short life has been filled with pain. He was found laid out in the middle of the street, emaciated and unable to stand. ⁠
⁠
When we first rescued Reggie, we discovered multiple fractured bones, all at various stages of healing. We rushed him to Vergi 24/7 and then transferred him to Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists for an MRI. We needed answers. His back legs have deep pain sensation, but he still can’t walk. His left hind leg is severely swollen—his paw nearly double its normal size. We knew something was terribly wrong.⁠
⁠
When Reggie arrived at the specialist, he was understandably distressed after spending a few days in the ER. However, the specialists told us there was nothing we could do for him. They said it wasn’t even worth doing the MRI, claiming he wasn’t eating or drinking and saying he had no sensation in his legs. The only problem was that Reggie wasn’t ready to stop fighting, so we opted for a second opinion.⁠
⁠
Reggie was transferred to a different vet, where he received a CT scan. Previous X-rays had indicated that Reggie might be suffering from congenital damage to his spine, HOWEVER, the CT scan proved without a doubt that his spinal compression was caused by previous trauma. ⁠

Since being hospitalized again, Reggie seems to be doing ok. His temperature is bordering on a fever at 102.5, but he’s eating a drinking will. We did get the good news that he DOES seem to have control of his bladder, which is an excellent sign!⁠

Just got a call from the vet. He told me that they put 3 drains in his head because the pus needs to come out because they keep filling. I asked if he did better and he said no. His kidney values are immeasurably high and he could poison himself. He then said he was suffering greatly and that I should consider euthanasia.
Not immediately at this point, though, because he wants to see what effect the drains will have on his kidney function. I pray that the kidney values are dropping significantly tonight and that the drains work. I just said goodbye to Raffie 😭💔 please Odin stay strong. Please keep fighting and please kidney values drop!!!! 😭😭😭😭 I hope he makes it through the night. I am going to visit him right in the morning because I want to hold him 😭💔 I can’t take this pain anymore 😭😭
