About a year ago, YouTuber and animator @MikuMayhem (Connor Fennesy) dropped a trailer for what looked like the start of a serious anime project. Fans were excited — the trailer was ambitious, with a recognizable art style influenced by @channelcaststation, and Connor seemed passionate about creating something big.
But since that trailer? Nothing. No episodes. No real updates. Just scattered meme posts, vague tweets, and a controversy.
Instead of working on the anime, it seems Connor spent most of the year making unrelated content — while fans kept waiting. And when people started asking questions, especially after noticing that new character designs appeared more sexualized than before, things got messy.
According to Connor himself, people pointed out that the exaggerated anatomy in one animation (HIMITSU DAYO) didn’t match the earlier art style. Connor’s response? He claimed it was “just female anatomy.” But this defense didn’t sit right with me, especially given how different the designs were from the original style he was using (heavily inspired by @channelcaststation), which had even been used earlier in the video.
Even more confusing: Connor had previously criticized others for using the @channelcaststation style to gain clout… despite having built much of his following using that exact style.
So where’s the anime? Why promise something and let it sit for an entire year with zero visible progress? Was it ever meant to happen, or was it just hype bait?
A lot of creators make ambitious announcements — but when there’s no follow-through, fans are right to ask questions. If you're going to use a community’s style, build a following, and tease a big project, the least you can do is communicate honestly.
