Margazhi Thiruvathirai Star ⭐ Day. Maragatha ( Emarald ) Natarajar at
#Uthirakosamangai Temple, one of the oldest #Shiva temples in the world.
Yearly once on this auspicious day sandalwood paste kappu is removed from emerald Natrajar Statue.

Arudra Darisanam (Margazhi Thiruvathirai) is one of the most significant Shaivite festivals, dedicated to Lord Shiva as Nataraja, the Cosmic Dancer.
This day commemorates the Ananda Thandavam, Shiva’s cosmic dance, which represents the five eternal processes of the universe.

Arudra Darisanam is not just ritualistic worship, it reflects the idea that the universe operates through order, movement, and timing, not randomness.
The festival is observed when the Thiruvathirai (Ardra) Nakshatram occurs during the Tamil month of Margazhi (mid-Dec to mid-Jan). Since it is based on astronomical star alignment, the date changes every year.

Pre-dawn Abhishekam to Natarajan happens today
Deepa Aradhana with sacred chants
Offering of Thiruvathirai Kali (sweet rice with jaggery)
Chariot (Ther) processions in major Shiva temples
Fasting, meditation, and early-morning darshan
Removing the sandal paste,day long rituals & various abhishekam will be done.Next day Maragatha Nataraja sannandhi will be closed after anointing the murthi with fresh sandal paste.Maragatha Natarajar is covered with sandal paste throughout the year
