When I heard Tom Ford was releasing a Reserve edition of Black Orchid, my expectations were sky high and for good reason. We’re talking about the first fragrance that launched the Tom Ford Beauty empire and one of the most daring, distinctive designer fragrances ever made. Black Orchid wasn’t just a perfume…it was a statement. A boundary pusher. A legend.
So of course, anything bearing the name Black Orchid Reserve had to be exceptional.
I’m happy to report: it delivers. In fact, it exceeded my expectations. This is a reimagining of Black Orchid as if it had been released under the Tom Ford Private Blend line from the start. That’s the vibe of this. It’s richer, smoother, and more decadent.
What sets this version apart? The patchouli. It was a star note in the original but is reimagined here with a silky, chocolatey quality that is more pronounced. It’s not earthy or raw; it’s luxe, creamy, and seductive. But the real surprise? A never before used note in Black Orchid perfumes…roasted tonka bean. Warm, nutty, with hints of dark cherry and toasted almond, it melts into the chocolatey patchouli to create an edible richness that’s sensual without being sweet or reminiscent of a cookie or cupcake. It doesn’t smell like dessert. It smells like seduction.
Black Orchid Reserve is a warm, creamy, embrace of a scent. It’s deeply sexy, effortlessly elegant, and outrageously long lasting (I notice it 10+ hours on my skin easily). The opening is bold and attention-grabbing, with an aura that commands the room. Guerlain just released a very attractive peachy osmanthus fragrance for lovers of fruity scents. It’s bougie as you would expect, while being fun and playful, which is rare for Guerlain. Totally different than what we are used to from Guerlain, but a welcomed addition to the L’Art & La Matiere Collection. Available now at Bergdorf Goodman. The original formulation was one of the best designer fragrances made over the last decade. The replacement version, done by the great Francis Kurkdijan, is the most generic scent Dior has ever made. The original Dior Homme Parfum smelled like no other brand but Dior. This smells like Gaultier meets the first floor at Macys!!!! I’m going to tear this up on my next live from Bergdorf’s.

I’ve been wearing the new Mojave Ghost Absolu from Byredo for the last 3 hours and it’s one of the best scents they have made so far. The original would be on its last legs at this point on my skin.
