Abuse gets normalized in families because silence gets spiritualized, minimized, and overlooked.

How many survivors have heard:
“But that’s still your mother.”
“But that’s still your father.”
“But that’s still your family.”

Pause right there.
When you hear that, you’re not hearing wisdom.
You’re hearing the voice of an enabler, a flying monkey, or a narcissist sympathizer.

That person is y & not safe. Anyone who understands trauma and abuse will never minimize harm with titles.
Love does not require you to tolerate abuse.
Blood does not excuse betrayal.
Familiarity does not equal safety.

Abusers don’t always look abusive.
Some are charming.
Some are popular.
Some are “pillars” in the family or the church.
Some smile in public and terrorize in private.

Yes, mothers can abuse.
Yes, fathers can abuse.
Yes, siblings can abuse.
Yes, children can abuse.

Abuse doesn’t stop being abuse because the person looks “normal” or “loving” on the surface. Healing requires safe people, not people who coddle dysfunction or gaslight your discernment.
Safe people understand power, patterns, and trauma dynamics. Safe people don’t rush you back into harm for the sake of appearances.

Empathetic people are some of the most compassionate, kindest people alive. We carry the light.

You didn’t turn mean. The people who benefitted from your “niceness” just never expected you to grow a backbone.

They still expect you to be the “bigger person.”
Translation: Hush your mouth and keep taking the abuse.

Not anymore. Here’s why you might suddenly be called “mean”:

1. You stopped being endlessly available.
When access is no longer automatic, entitled people get offended.

2. You started saying “no” without a 30-minute explanation. Healthy boundaries feel like rejection to those who thrived on your lack of them.

3. You no longer carry emotions that don’t belong to you. When you stop absorbing other people’s chaos, they call it “attitude.”

4. You stopped rescuing adults who refuse to rescue themselves. Accountability feels like cruelty to the unhealed.

5. You corrected the false narratives about you.
Truth sounds harsh to people who depended on your silence.

You’re not mean.
You’re maturing.
You’re healing.
