🌍 DAY 9 – SDG GOAL 9: INDUSTRY, INNOVATION AND INFRASTRUCTURE

Building Strong Infrastructure, Promoting Innovation, Driving Development

SDG 9 focuses on building resilient infrastructure, supporting sustainable industries, and promoting innovation as key drivers of economic growth and national development.

In Nigeria, challenges such as poor roads, unstable electricity, limited internet access, and inadequate support for industries continue to slow progress. These issues affect businesses, education, healthcare, job creation, and overall quality of life.

Infrastructure is the foundation of development. Without reliable roads, electricity, transportation, and digital connectivity, industries struggle to grow, investors stay away, and innovation remains limited.

What Can We Do?

βœ… Protect and maintain public infrastructure.
βœ… Support local products and businesses.
βœ… Encourage creativity, technology, and innovation among young people.
βœ… Promote technical and digital skills development.
βœ… Advocate for improved roads, electricity, internet access, and industrial growth.
βœ… Support policies that encourage innovation and private-sector investment.

When infrastructure improves, businesses grow, jobs are created, healthcare and education become more accessible, and communities develop faster.

A Nigeria with reliable electricity, quality roads, affordable internet, thriving industries, and innovative young people is a Nigeria positioned for sustainable growth and prosperity.

🌍 SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure Build Better Infrastructure. Support Innovation. Strengthen Industries. Drive Development.

🌍 DAY 2 – SDG GOAL 2: ZERO HUNGER
Ending Hunger Starts With What We Do Today

🎯 Theme

From Hunger to Food Security: Growing Food, Nourishing People, Building Prosperity
When many people hear "Zero Hunger," they think only about providing food to those who are hungry. However, SDG 2 is much bigger than food donations. It is about ensuring that everyone has access to sufficient, safe, nutritious food while creating sustainable agricultural systems that improve livelihoods and strengthen communities.
The journey to Zero Hunger begins with individuals, families, schools, businesses, communities, organizations, and governments taking practical action.
1. WHAT IS THE PROBLEM AROUND US?
Despite Nigeria's vast agricultural potential, hunger remains a challenge in many communities.
We see:
πŸ”Ή Families skipping meals because food is too expensive
πŸ”Ή Children suffering from malnutrition and poor nutrition
πŸ”Ή Farmers lacking access to modern farming tools and resources
πŸ”Ή Post-harvest losses due to poor storage facilities
πŸ”Ή Large amounts of food wasted while many people go hungry
πŸ”Ή Youth unemployment reducing access to food and income
πŸ”Ή Overdependence on imported food products
πŸ”Ή Limited agricultural investment among young people
Hunger is not always caused by food scarcity alone. It is often linked to poverty, unemployment, poor agricultural systems, conflict, and lack of knowledge about nutrition.

2. WHY DOES IT MATTER?
Hunger affects every aspect of life.
When people do not have enough nutritious food:
Children struggle to learn effectively, Health problems increase, Productivity decreases, Poverty worsens, Economic growth slows down, Families become more vulnerable, Communities become less resilient, A hungry nation cannot reach its full potential.

Food security is not just about feeding people todayβ€”it is about creating systems that ensure people can feed themselves tomorrow and for generations to come.

3. WHAT PRACTICAL ACTIONS CAN WE TAKE?
1. As Individuals

My practical story.

I have an ugly experience that shape my taught towards this aspect of life, It made me realize that hunger is not a one person thing but a national fight.

TYMDAUR GLOBAL LIMITED, an agro based company in ogoja, local government of Cross River State, gave me a broader knowledge on biological assest building. Here it is, in other to have a hunger free future, individual are to be encouraged to invest in medium and long term farming. This farming methods can sustain the future while feeding the presence through minor harvest till it reach it maturity stage.
Start a home garden, even if it is small, Reduce food waste, Buy and support locally produced food. Learn modern farming and agribusiness skills, Invest in agriculture and food production, Share food responsibly with those in need, Promote healthy eating habits, Every seed planted is a step toward Zero Hunger.
Young Nigeria should invest in upskilling them selves in different digital skill. As the future depends on tech and agriculture.
2. As Families
Families are to take responsibilities in Establishing family gardens and Teach children the value of agriculture, Store food properly to reduce waste, Encourage healthy and balanced diets, Support family farming projects, Create household food-saving habits, Food security begins at home.
3. As Schools
Management are to imbibe the culture of Africanism, by including major African practices in their curriculum, teaching young generation on how to be practical enough, in aspects like agriculture, entrepreneurship and other related, innovative subject.
They should Introduce agricultural clubs, Establish school gardens and farms, Teach nutrition and food security.Organize practical agricultural training by bringing in expertise to enlightened farmers,Promote entrepreneurship in agriculture, Schools can inspire the next generation of farmers, food innovators, and agribusiness leaders.
4. As Businesses
Invest in agricultural value chains, Support local farmers through partnerships,Reduce food waste in operations, Sponsor agricultural innovation programs, Create jobs within the food and agricultural sector, Businesses can transform agriculture into a driver of economic growth meaning that mentorship should be given to young individuals on how to transform agriculture into a business ventures.
5. As Communities
Community are to set policies that should affect laziness negatively by encouraging community farms and gardens.
Support cooperative farming societies, Share agricultural knowledge and resources, Organize food security awareness campaigns, Promote local food production and processing, Strong communities grow food and opportunities together.
6. As NGOs and Civil Society Organizations
Most of the most reliable organisation that we can call and cry for help from are the NGO's, NGO'S should Provide agricultural training programs, Support women and youth in agribusines, Promote nutrition education, Facilitate access to farming inputs, Support climate-smart agricultural practices, Advocate for food security policies,Empowerment creates sustainable solutions to hunger while creating an awareness on the importance of technology and the knowledge of how they can be applicable to farming.
7. As Government
The government actually have a major role to play in the aspects of having a hunger free nation, by making use of the bless natural soil we have, by investing in agriculture and rural development, Improve access to quality seeds and fertilizers, Support farmers with affordable credit facilities, Develop irrigation and storage infrastructure, Strengthen agricultural extension services, Improve transportation networks for food distribution,Encourage youth participation in agriculture.
The path to Zero Hunger requires strong policies and sustained investment.

BEYOND FEEDING PEOPLE: BUILDING FOOD WEALTH

Achieving Zero Hunger is not only about eating enough food.
It is also about:
Agricultural investment, like investing in palm oil, plantain, cashew, cocoa, coconut, and even animals rearing
Youth participation in farming, youth should be encouraged to see agriculture as a business not just a food provide..
Agribusiness entrepreneurship
Food processing and value addition
Skills acquisition(tech)
Financial discipline
Community empowerment
Sustainable food systems
When agriculture becomes profitable, communities become prosperous.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT

Abang Ikanobi Simon

Imagine a Nigeria where:
Every child has nutritious meals, Every farmer earns a decent income, Every community produces food sustainably, Young people see agriculture as an opportunity, not a punishmen, Food waste is minimized, Hunger becomes a thing of the past.
That future is possibleβ€”but only if we all play our part.

CALL TO ACTION

Today, ask yourself:

What can I do to improve food security in my home, workplace, school, business, or community?
Because ending hunger is not the responsibility of farmers alone.
It is a responsibility we all share.
