Day 41 and we’re quilting half feathers… but with a twist! Today we’re starting right in the center of the strip and quilting out.
Sometimes changing where you start makes the whole design feel easier and more balanced. Starting in the middle lets the feathers grow naturally in both directions instead of trying to squeeze them in at the end.
Machine quilting feathers really are endless—every strip is a chance to practice, play, and try something new.
There’s still time to join the class. Remember… this isn’t a race.

It’s Strip by Strip Day 40… and surprise! I accidentally recorded two videos 😅 so today you’re getting 40 and 40+.
In these strips we’re quilting feathers and tulips using free-motion quilting and the Sway 3 machine quilting ruler. And today’s little reminder: mistakes are just unexpected design elements. If something doesn’t go exactly how you planned, keep quilting—echo it, travel from it, or build the next shape around it.
Sometimes the quilts we love the most are the ones where we stopped trying to make it perfect and just kept stitching. ✨
Comment “STRIP” and I’ll send you the info—remember you can join the class anytime and quilt along at your own pace!

Slide 1 (1 sentence):
If you catch yourself holding your breath while free-motion quilting, pause and take a deep breath.
Slide 2 (2 sentences):
Holding your breath can make your shoulders tense and your quilting lines stiff. Relax your shoulders, breathe steadily, and let your hands move with a smooth, natural rhythm.

One simple free-motion quilting tip that makes a huge difference… don’t forget to breathe.
It sounds funny, but so many of us hold our breath when we’re concentrating on our stitching. When that happens our shoulders tighten up, our hands get stiff, and suddenly the quilting doesn’t feel smooth anymore.
If your quilting starts to feel jerky or tense, pause for a second, take a deep breath, relax your shoulders, and start again. Smooth breathing helps create smooth quilting lines.
Today in Strip #39 we’re focusing on free-motion quilting in a 2" strip, and little tips like this can make the whole process feel so much easier.

Day 38 of Strip by Strip and we’re quilting melons with no markings using the Mini 4-N-1 and Sway 4 machine quilting rulers. One of my favorite tips for ruler work like this is to keep your ruler pressure light—let the curve guide the design instead of forcing it. When you relax your grip and glide along the ruler, those melons start to look smooth, balanced, and natural across the strip.
This is such a fun design because once you understand the curve, the possibilities are endless. Grab your companion design workbook, doodle a few melons, and then jump on your machine and start quilting.

Day 37 of my free class Strip by Strip: A Quilting Journey and today we’re quilting some sweet free-motion hearts. 💗
One of my favorite tips when quilting shapes like this is to focus on the path your needle travels instead of trying to draw a perfect heart. Think curve down, point, curve back up—and let the movement guide you.
Every strip in this series is designed to help you grow your machine quilting skills one design at a time. No pressure, no race—just practice and progress.
✨ Grab your Strip by Strip Companion Design Workbook so you can doodle, practice, and scan the QR codes to watch each lesson.

Day #36 of my free class Strip by Strip and today we’re quilting a fun free-motion geometric line design. One thing I always remind myself when quilting designs like this is that the lines don’t have to be perfectly ruler-straight. Those tiny wobbles are part of the charm and they add texture and movement to the quilt.
Sometimes the goal isn’t perfection… it’s consistency and flow. Quilt one line, then build from there.
You can still join the class at any time and come back to these designs again and again. Make sure you grab the companion design workbook so you can doodle, practice, and scan the QR codes to watch each lesson.

Day 35 of Strip by Strip and today we’re quilting a woven design in a 2" strip using the Mini 4-N-1 machine quilting ruler. This one definitely takes a little more time, but the texture and movement it creates is totally worth it!
One of my favorite tips for designs like this is to think in small sections instead of the whole strip. Quilt one little woven repeat at a time and the entire design comes together beautifully.
You can still join the class at any time, and once the videos are released you can watch them again and again. The companion design workbook is also a great place to practice doodling and plan your quilting.
We all start somewhere.

Day 34 of my Strip by Strip free class and today we’re doing a little bit of marking before we start quilting ✏️
I’m using a disappearing ink marking pen, but before marking anything on your quilt top, always test it on a scrap of the same fabric first. Not all fabric pens behave the same way, and the last thing you want is a mark that doesn’t disappear.
A quick test takes just a few seconds and can save your quilt.
We all start somewhere. 💛

Day 33 of my Strip-by-Strip free machine quilting class ✨
Today we’re quilting double scallops using the Sway 4 and Sway 5 machine quilting rulers, and I’m sharing a quick tip that can make ruler quilting feel so much smoother.
Sometimes if your ruler starts to feel like it’s dragging, it’s not your quilting… it might just be a little lint or thread buildup on your ruler base. Taking a quick second to wipe it clean helps your ruler glide easily so those curves stay nice and smooth.
We all start somewhere, and little tips like this can make a big difference as you grow your machine quilting skills.
You can still join this free class anytime.

Day 32 of my free Strip by Strip class and today we’re quilting these fun, fast flowers. 🌸 Sometimes the simplest designs are the best ones—just soft loops around a center to create easy petals.
We all start somewhere, and this is a great design to practice building confidence with free-motion quilting.
You can still join the class at any time.
Comment STRIP and I’ll send you the info, and don’t forget your Companion Design Workbook so you can follow along and practice each design.
