I am not completely sold on the use of AI in the claims Handling process.
While I acknowledge the potential benefits of Artificial Intelligence (AI), I must express my reservations regarding its full adoption.
AI’s Advantages:
AI possesses remarkable capabilities in data retrieval and automation, enabling humans to process and edit data at an unprecedented speed and efficiency. However, it is crucial to recognize its limitations and the potential risks associated with its deployment.
AI’s Lack of Empathy:
One significant concern is the erosion of trust and confidence in the claims process due to AI’s inability to provide genuine empathy. Insureds, who are entitled to indemnification by carriers, may feel disempowered by the notion that AI’s responses are solely determined by the programming of the carriers. It is essential to acknowledge that not all carriers prioritize the best interests of their insureds, and relying solely on AI for writing, approving, reviewing, and processing damage estimates poses a substantial risk of litigation.
AI’s Accuracy Concerns:
The widespread emphasis on AI’s successes often overlooks its potential for faulty operations. My personal experience with AI projects revealed a significant number of errors, necessitating manual corrections that undermined the perceived value of AI. The complexity of the projects, involving diverse fonts and data banks, further exacerbated the issue. While human error is a known factor, relying solely on AI to reduce errors and expedite processing time raises concerns about the potential for AI to perpetuate human shortcomings.
The Human Element in AI:
Furthermore, the reliance on AI-dependent software and hardware necessitates human interaction. Users may encounter situations where they need to manually confirm the accuracy of AI-generated outputs, leading to unnecessary costs and frustration. No one likes paying twice for the same function.
