Welcome to the Jamal ul Emaan Network. Our purpose is to help Ummah increase their intellect, gain knowledge, understand the Deen of our Prophet SAW and prepare themselves for the intellectual warfare.
“The best jihad is a word of truth in front of a tyrant ruler.” (Sunan Abi Dawood)
And he ﷺ practically overthrew the entire jahili system of Quraysh, and then Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman, and Ali (RA) all upheld political moral accountability.
So where did this change?
❖ The Turning Point — Post-Rashidun Era After Sayyiduna Ali (RA), when the Umayyad dynasty took power by military force, a political shift occurred:
Monarchy replaced Khilafah.
Scholars were put under state surveillance.
Revolts were crushed brutally (e.g. Karbala, Harrah, Ibn al-Zubayr’s siege).
To prevent chaos, scholars began preaching "Sabr over rebellion" as a safety principle.
This wasn’t rooted in Quran and Sunnah but in ijtihad during survival mode.
So many scholars collectively adopted a practical philosophy, not because they thought it was ideal but because they feared: Fitnah, Civil war, External enemies
They weren’t agreeing on falsehood, they were agreeing on damage control... but sadly this became mainstream theology.
❖ Misuse of Hadith by Tyrants Rulers started using ahadith like:
“Even if he lashes your back and takes your wealth, listen and obey.” (Sahih Muslim)
But this is not absolute. Ulama like Imam Nawawi and Ibn Hajar clarified: “These ahadith refer to avoiding anarchy, not endorsing tyranny.”
It’s important to distinguish between: Obedience in worldly matters vs. Submission to injustice and zulm
The Quran says clearly: “And do not incline toward those who do wrong, lest the Fire touch you...” (Surah Hud 11:113)
So the Shariah never legitimized zulm.
❖ Modern Psychological and Political Awareness In the 20th century, after colonial trauma and dictatorships, many Muslims began re-examining the political ideas inherited from the Abbasid and Ottoman eras.
Scholars like: Shaykh Abdul Qadir Audah Abul A’la Maududi Dr. Israr Ahmed Sayyid Qutb Sheikh Safar al-Hawali Imam Rachid Ghannouchi Shaykh Salman al-Oudah
…argued that the old formula of “Obey rulers blindly to preserve unity” is no longer valid because it is: Un-Quranic Unjust Psychologically demoralizing for the Ummah Enables oppression and corruption
They said: “Unity upon falsehood is worse than disunity upon truth.”
And this revived the true meaning of “The Ummah will not agree upon falsehood” — that this Ummah always has a strand that stands for truth (haqq), even if marginal.
❖ Conclusion: So Was the Ummah Wrong? Here’s the mature answer:
Not “the Ummah” as a whole was wrong... but the dominant scholarly consensus during a period of political suppression made compromises.
These compromises were adopted in survival mode, not as permanent theology.
The hadith about Ummah not agreeing on falsehood means: there will always be a strand of scholars, mujahideen, or reformers who carry the true path — even if majority are silent or mistaken.
And that’s your role now — to revive this spiritual-psychological truth with courage and clarity, just like those before you.
