Monetization and channel memberships were restored to me in the early hours of this morning. YouTube Partnership Support thanked me for my patience, as it took a couple of weeks for them to reinstate all features of my channel following the hacking of my Google Account.

Frustratingly, views/impressions are still considerably lower across the channel, especially on The Secret Garden, Dracula, and The Railway Children. I mustn't be disheartened, though!

🦊🎶 You may have noticed that my beloved channel and all its videos suddenly disappeared a few days ago. After 4 stressful days, the channel has been restored to me. What happened? The simple answer is that on Thursday at 15:30 UTC my Google Account was hacked. The hacker then took control of my YouTube channel, using it to host a livestream (titled: Bitcoin 2025 Conference) to facilitate some sort of phishing scam. This appears to have been a mass attack, affecting many YouTube channels. YouTube froze my channel (as the hacker's livestream was detected as being malicious) while they investigated what had happened, and to ensure that the genuine owner of the channel (me) was able to regain control safely.

I am terribly sorry for any confusion or inconvenience this has caused you. It has been an absolute nightmare, to say the very least.

I noticed a problem with my Google Account almost immediately, before it was obvious that the hacker was trying to access my YouTube channel. Within 5 minutes however, I was locked out of my account, and all security details had been changed. Fear and anxiety washing over me, I quickly tried to secure all other important accounts and apps, and contacted TeamYouTube on X for help. Google and YouTube Partnership Support have worked with me since to restore my accounts.

I waited until Google Support confirmed that my account had been frozen to remove the hacker's access before publicly addressing the hack. Unable to post here of course, I posted on my Patreon page, on my old YouTube channel (that some of you kindly reached out to me through: www.youtube.com/channel/UCsKp... ) and on my Discord. Fortunately these 3 platforms were linked to different Google Accounts so remained safe!

The real bad news for me is that monetization has been paused on my channel until Google and YouTube finish their investigation into the hack. Adverts will still run on the channel (this is YouTube policy) but I will make no revenue on my videos until this is resolved.
Worse still, views are significantly lower on all of my videos due to my channel being removed from the YouTube and Google algorithms for 4 days. They will now be placed much lower in the search rankings. Hopefully this isn't the case, but I simply don't know whether my channel will ever recover from this damage. I'm of course relieved that I have my channel back up - the channel and this amazing community are so incredibly dear to me, especially after the trials and tribulations I've faced with YouTube over the years. I know how much joy and comfort many of you take from listening to my audiobooks and watching my videos - but this really has been devastating.

Thank you for being here. Your love and support here and now, and over the last few years, has been absolutely incredible! Leaving likes on my videos, leaving comments, sharing my channel with others... all this will help to say HEY YOUTUBE, DON'T FORGET ABOUT STEVEN RED FOX GARNETT! 😆

Published in 1841, Edgar Allan Poe's "The Murders in the Rue Morgue" introduced the world to Monsieur C. Auguste Dupin, the prototype for detectives to come. I've no doubt we would never have been graced with Doyle's Sherlock Holmes if it hadn't been for Poe's Dupin. Set in Paris, the tale follows Dupin's brilliant analytical mind as he unravels the mystery of two grotesque and bizarre deaths that baffle the police.

This one was an absolute JOY to perform! Slow to start, the narrator begins with a discussion of the analytic mind that sets up the story proper.
An abridged version would usually begin at 00:09:25 so if you want to get stuck right in with the main narrative, then feel free to skip ahead.

Now I bring you "The Tale of Squirrel Nutkin"; arguably the nuttiest of Beatrix Potter's stories!

Those of you who follow my YouTube channel closely will know that from 2018 to 2021, I used to livestream quite often. I would LOVE to get back into it. Aside from streaming, I've long been aware that I never really video myself reading, but that it could be a fantastic thing to do.

What better then than taking on this challenge now with the remaining Beatrix Potter stories. Short and joyful, I think they're ideal for it!

Honestly, those dollars really add up and go a long way to compensate for the vast amount of hours that go into making these audiobooks. Competition from A.I. "read" audiobooks is increasing by the day, with some people even pretending that humans are reading the stories when in fact they are completely computer generated, as the software is getting so advanced that it can mimic breathing and changes of emotion.

Sadly, I don't currently have access to the original files for The Secret Garden and Dracula, as they're trapped on an old broken computer. It happened to die on me the same week as an external hard drive that I used to back up all my work. How nice 😅

I'll go through what I do have available though, and look to share musicless versions of some of my other full audiobooks too.
