LOST TAPE FROM THE BEATLES SCHOOL SHOW CAN BE SAVED (with set list)

The discovery of a tape recording of one of The Beatles' first shows, made on 04 April 1963 at a Buckinghamshire private school last week, surprised music experts and fans.

And now the 60-year-old tape, complete with audible Fab Four stunts, is set to be restored for a wider audience, according to the BBC journalist who discovered the story Samira Ahmed. Former tape maker John Bloomfield hopes to enhance it with the same kind of technology he recently enhanced other Beatles demo tapes and early studio takes.

“Talks are underway to clear [the tape] and for a permanent home in a national cultural institution,” Ahmed told the Observer. John feels strongly that he should not end up, like so many Beatles relics, in the vault of a particular individual. "

John Bloomfield was the teenage stage manager of the show at Stowe School Theatre on April 4 and had the insight to place a microphone in front of the stage, which powered his new Butoba MT5 recorder. Fearing that his poor quality would later make him useless, he simply kept it in his home as the band's worldwide fame grew and grew, lasting until now, more than half a century after they last played together in public.

The most impressive among the revelations in the tape, and revealed in its entirety below for the first time, is the set list. Details like these shed new light on the band's musical progression at a point where they were star-studded.

1- I Saw Her Standing There
2-Too Much Monkey Business
3-Love Me Do
4-Some Other Guy
5-Misery
6-I Just Don’t Understand
7-A Shot of Rhythm and Blues
8-Boys!
9-Matchbox
10- From Me To You
11-Thank You Girl
12-Memphis Tennessee
14-A Taste of Honey
15-Twist and Shout
16-Anna
17-Please Please Me
18-Hippy Hippy Shake
19-I’m Talking About You
20-Ask Me Why
21-Till There Was You
22-Money
23-I Saw Her Standing There (reprise)

The tape ends at this point, but speculation, based on a set list written from memory by one of Stowe’s students, suggests two more tracks: Sweet Little Sixteen and Long Tall Sally. The tape is about 1 hour long. #thebeatles #thebeatlesdiaries
