Big news for our community 🤝
The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs just announced $16 million in grants to support adaptive sports programs for veterans and servicemembers with disabilities and several CA organizations are among the awardees.
These programs create space for connection, confidence, and healing while helping veterans build independence and improve their overall well being. We are proud to see these opportunities growing across CA and proud of the organizations making it happen every day.

It’s been powerful to see the collaboration and shared commitment coming together, all focused on creating a meaningful space for conversation around Tribal veterans mental health.

Military Sexual Trauma (MST) affects each survivor differently, with impacts on mental, physical, and even social health. For women veterans, MST can contribute to chronic pain, depression, anxiety, relationship struggles, and increased risks during pregnancy and menopause. No survivor should face these struggles alone. MST-related services are available to all veterans and most former servicemembers, regardless of discharge status or length of service. You do not need a VA disability rating to get help.

Cindy Garcia has been named as the new Executive Officer for the California Veterans Board. Garcia will help the Board carry out its three-fold mission of understanding veteran needs, advocating for California veterans and their families, and providing timely and equitable reviews of appeals to CalVet decisions.

Garcia’s primary responsibilities will be managing Board resources, organizing and directing administrative functions, and serving as the primary point of contact for California veterans and their families.

Garcia was sworn in by CalVet Secretary Lindsey Sin on April 10, with Board Chair Hugh E. Crooks Jr. and Garcia's husband Armando on hand.

The Veterans Home of California - Fresno recently unveiled 65 additional names for Phase 1 of the Memorial Project. Led by the Central California Veterans Home Support Foundation, this project honors veterans who spent the final chapter of their lives at the Fresno Home. Phase 1 is now complete, with 450 names etched in granite, each telling a story of service. Phase II is coming! The Foundation is fundraising to add another 450 names across five granite walls.

Observed each year on April 9, this day marks the 1942 surrender of U.S. forces on the Bataan Peninsula and pays tribute to the resilience and strength of those who survived unimaginable conditions.
