You will learn how to create a powerful workflow for designing a dissolving tile pattern across multiple areas.
In this 2-hour mini-course, weβll start by creating a fluid-like pattern that forms the base of our design using the 4D Noise plugin. Then, with the help of LunchBox, weβll add tiling, so that each tile picks up its color from the pattern beneath it. After that, weβll show you a powerful method we developed to solve the challenge of creating a dissolving pattern that smoothly transitions from one color tiling to another.
Next, weβll add materials - different shades of dark and light grey for the tiles and a grass texture. Finally, we'll place trees, and people, and render everything with V-Ray.

This month's workshop inside of How to Rhino Premium Group is:
Design with Climate (Ladybug) π
The workshop will be led by Ricardo Ruiter Kanamori, a BIM architect and computational designer with a Master of Science in Architecture from Delft University of Technology. With experience at firms like Schmidt Hammer Lassen Architects and Daiwa House Modular Europe, Ricardo brings a wealth of practical knowledge to the table.
This workshop focuses on using Ladybug Tools within Grasshopper3D for sustainable design. This is the perfect starting point for architects, engineers, landscape designers, and anyone interested in incorporating environmental analysis into their projects.
π Workshop Description:
We are going to explore how to design taking the climate into consideration.
Over two days (total 6-8 hours), you'll gain hands-on experience with crucial Ladybug tools for:
βοΈDaylighting & Solar Studies:
Sky Dome, Sun Path, Solar Benefit, Sun Hours, Incident Radiation, Thermal Shade Benefit. Learn to optimize natural light and solar gain!
βοΈWind Studies:
Wind Rose, Wind Profile. Understand and visualize wind patterns for better site design.
βοΈView Studies:
View Percent, View Rose, Visibility Percent. Maximize view quality in your projects.
You'll learn to set up and run simulations, visualize environmental data, and β most importantly β interpret the results to make informed, climate-responsive design decisions. This workshop provides a solid foundation in essential Ladybug skills, preparing you for real-world applications.

We still have 3 spots left at the cheaper price of $25 each month.
After these spots are filled, the price will go up to $35 each month.
If you join now, you can keep paying the lower price for as long as you stay with us.
I had lots of fun creating this and I'm sure you will as well. This is a completely new venture for me as I don't have any developer background, but I'm slowly starting to learn how to code both using Python and C#, so I thought why not share the journey with you guys and show you the complete process of developing your own plugin/tool for Rhino. π
Even without prior coding experience, you'll learn how to leverage the power of AI tools like Cursor (powered by Claude 3.5 Sonnet) and Visual Studio to create a custom image viewer panel directly within Rhino.
We'll walk through the entire process, from setting up your development environment and installing necessary tools to writing code, debugging with AI assistance, and finally, deploying a functional plugin.
This course focuses on building a practical tool for referencing images while modeling, but the principles learned can be applied to a wide range of Rhino and Grasshopper plugin development projects.
This course covers not only the creation of the core image viewing functionality but also explores advanced concepts such as handling user input (folder selection, image navigation), customizing the user interface (implementing custom buttons and handling UI events), and managing project versions with Git and GitHub.
The process also includes debugging, managing dependencies, and addressing real-world development challenges, preparing you for your own plugin-building adventures.
This month's workshop inside of How to Rhino Premium Group is
π― Computing Things
The workshop will be led by Omar Kaddourah, senior designer at Zaha Hadid Architects with extensive experience in computational design and urban architecture. Through his professional journey, he has contributed to significant projects including the 1.2 million square meter Unicorn Island Master Plan in China, where he specialized in façade model design and rationalization.
As a computational design expert at BIG (Bjarke Ingels Group), he was instrumental in developing a comprehensive algorithmic toolkit comprising over 30 tools for urban design applications. This technology suite addresses various aspects of urban planning, from massing generation to complex road network analysis.
π Workshop Description:
This workshop focuses on using computers to create complex 3D designs, particularly for building facades (the outer walls). It highlights the power of "parametric modeling" software, like Grasshopper, which lets you automate design steps and easily update your models. This approach can be great for efficiency and handling changes. However, the workshop also acknowledges the value of manual modeling, which can be simpler and more adaptable for some designers. The workshop will help participants understand advanced techniques that combine these approaches.
Over two days (plus an optional third topic), you will get hands-on experience. First, you'll learn how to create foldable rib structures on curved surfaces using computer-aided geometry processing. Then, you'll explore how to divide up façade panels into a pattern and group them based on their shape and location, and then give them materials and colors in Rhino.
We're also going to delve into generating a more intricate pattern called the Ron Resch Pattern and add color to it using the same grouping techniques. The overall aim is to equip participants with the tools to apply these techniques in their design projects.
