That first year of teaching in the classroom can be a real kick in the nuts. There's a lot most college of education programs conveniently left out of the brochure. Somewhere between being bullied by a 5th grader and being gaslighted by my principle, I found myself ugly crying in the supply closet.

It quickly became clear to me professors omitted the nitty gritty reality of being a K-12 educator these days. Well, this brutally honest, broke teacher has nothing to lose. I'm gonna tell you what I wish my education professors would have... I am going to tell you what they won't.

Why is it taboo to be blunt with people about the harsh realities of this job? We deserved fair warning. You need to be mentally and emotionally prepared for this crap. Omitting the hard stuff during training just leaves new teachers feeling like an entire flock of birds collectively took a sh*t on their brand new career. Oh, but no one warned them about the bird issue, so the top was down.
