🌲 Hi, we’re Joe & Tina — high school sweethearts, married 26 years, parents to 3 amazing kids, and proud retired military veterans.

In 2022, we sold almost everything and traded city life for a slower, more intentional life in Alaska. What started as a leap of faith has become a full-on homestead journey rooted in family, faith, hard work, and freedom. We share real life on our Alaskan homestead — the wins, the struggles, and everything in between. You’ll find:

• Homesteading
• Building projects & DIY
• Homeschooling & family life
• From-scratch cooking & preserving
• Seasonal rhythms of life in Alaska
• Cozy vlogs & honest conversations

We believe in living as self-sufficiently as possible, working with our hands, raising our kids close to nature, and choosing a life that feels meaningful — not rushed. If you love simple living, homesteading, family-centered content, and life in Alaska, you’re in the right place.

We get this question a LOT this time of year…
ā€œHave y’all made it out to the remote cabin yet?!ā€ ā„ļøšŸ”ļø

Short answer: maybe. šŸ˜‚

Long answer: In Alaska, everything is weather-dependent. Our cabin is only accessible by the frozen river in winter, so it’s not just about wanting to go — it’s about ice conditions, temps, and safety.

And when you have children in tow, it ups the risk a bit. Things we might be willing to attempt on our own, we won’t risk with our boys. That always weighs into the decision.

When it’s -31° like this morning… we’re mostly traveling from the couch to the wood stove. šŸ„¶šŸ”„

We hope to get at least one winter trip in this year, but around here it’s always TBD and dependent on what the river (and the weather) decide.

But rest assured that when we go, we’ll take y’all with us!😊

Alaska keeps us humble. šŸ¤

The last two weeks slowed us down more than we planned.

Lots of rest. Lots of quiet.

A gentle reminder that sometimes the most productive thing we can do is sit by the fire, breathe deep, and let the warmth of home do its healing.šŸ¤šŸ¤ Tina-

Weekend adventuresā€¦šŸ„°
Two boys. Two aprons. Two mug cakes.

They insisted on making them completely on their own — measuring, mixing, taste-testing (of course).

These are the moments I’ll miss one day.
Love them more than words. 🄹

The first seed trays are planted 🌱
And I can’t even begin to tell you how good it feels to finally feel… settled.

We sold our 1-acre homestead in Virginia in 2021 and moved into an apartment while waiting for Joe to retire from the military.
In October 2022, we moved across the country to Alaska — to the little cabin on the hill.
In September 2024, we sold and moved to the Cabin Castle.
Then again in February 2025, to the cabin we now call home.

It’s been a lot of packing and unpacking. A lot of rebuilding — pasture fencing, shelters, infrastructure for the animals. With each move came work before comfort. Survival before settling.

Gardening and preserving? We squeezed it in when we could. But these last few years have been more about transition than tradition.

For a while, it felt like we were always preparing for the next chapter instead of fully living in the one we were in.

But this… this feels different.

There’s something so grounding about trays of freshly planted seeds under warm light — especially when you live in Alaska and every growing season is precious. It feels like intention. Like roots going down.

I know not everyone understands why we’ve moved the way we have. And that’s okay. You don’t have to. It’s our life — and we’ve chosen to live it fully, even when it looks unconventional.

Twenty years of military life taught us something invaluable: a house doesn’t make a home. The people inside it do. Home is wherever your family is.

We’re always up for an adventure. We only get one life — and we don’t want to look back someday and wonder, what if?

But right now I’m savoring this season of staying. Of planting. Of building rhythms again. Of turning this house into a home.

And that feels really, really good.šŸ¤

Welp, after a year of no sickness. We got hit hard the last couple of days. First Joe (who’s still down) and now little Parker.šŸ¤’

So far Kellen & I are holdin’ down the fort, praying we don’t get it too.

Thankfully the sun is shining bright. ā˜€ļøWe’re all sunbathing and drinking warm bone broth with mineral salt. Doing all the things…sometimes it’s so hard to slow down.

But sickness doesn’t really give you a choice does it? Say a little prayer for us today if you think of it!šŸ¤šŸ¤ Tina-
