🎉 A Century of Laughter: Happy 100th Birthday, Mel Brooks!

Today, the world celebrates a true original.

Mel Brooks turns 100 years old, joining the rarest of clubs while remaining one of the sharpest, funniest, and most influential entertainers in history.

For more than seven decades, Brooks has left an unforgettable mark on comedy, film, television, and Broadway. Whether writing, directing, acting, producing, or simply making audiences laugh with a perfectly timed one-liner, his work has inspired generations of comedians and filmmakers.

From the brilliant satire of The Producers to the fearless comedy of Blazing Saddles, the affectionate movie parody of Young Frankenstein, the irreverence of History of the World, Part I, and the sci-fi spoof Spaceballs, Brooks has always demonstrated that comedy can be both wildly entertaining and surprisingly intelligent.

Long before many people knew him as a filmmaker, he and his dear friend Carl Reiner created one of comedy's most beloved routines: The 2000 Year Old Man. Their improvisational conversations became legendary, influencing comedians for decades and proving that sometimes the funniest moments come from two brilliant minds simply making each other laugh.

Brooks has also accomplished something almost unimaginable in entertainment. He is one of the few artists to achieve EGOT status, winning an Academy Award, multiple Emmy Awards, Grammy Awards, and Tony Awards—a testament to his extraordinary versatility across virtually every major entertainment medium.

Despite a career filled with honors, Brooks has never lost the mischievous spirit that made audiences fall in love with him in the first place. Earlier this year, Judd Apatow released the retrospective documentary Mel Brooks: The 99 Year Old Man!, a title that perfectly captured Brooks' lifelong ability to turn even aging into comedy.

Few entertainers have remained so relevant across multiple generations. His influence can be seen everywhere—from modern film comedies and Broadway musicals to television writers' rooms and stand-up stages. Countless comedians have borrowed from his fearless willingness to challenge convention, ridicule power, and remind us that laughter often says more than anger ever could.

At 100 years old, Mel Brooks is more than a comedy legend. He is a living link to Hollywood's Golden Age, a World War II veteran, a master storyteller, and one of the last remaining giants of American entertainment.

Thank you, Mel, for a century of laughter, courage, creativity, and joy.

Happy 100th Birthday to a true legend. ❤️🎂👏

🎂 HAPPY 95TH BIRTHDAY, MARLA GIBBS

Before she became Florence Johnston on The Jeffersons and Mary Jenkins on 227, Marla Gibbs was working a regular job and raising a family.

Then, in her 40s, everything changed.

Her portrayal of Florence helped make The Jeffersons one of television's most beloved sitcoms, while 227 established her as one of the most recognizable stars of the 1980s.

Nearly five decades later, Marla Gibbs remains a symbol of talent, perseverance, and timeless comedy.

Today, RET-TV celebrates a true television legend.

❤️ Happy 95th Birthday, Marla Gibbs!

RET TV remembers Ronnie Schell.

Many fans knew him as Duke Slater on Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C., but Ronnie's career stretched far beyond a single role.

From the San Francisco comedy clubs of the 1950s to nearly 150 television and film credits, Schell became one of those familiar faces who could make any show better simply by showing up.

A fun piece of television history: in the early 1970s, a 12-year-old Michael Jackson was asked to name his favorite comedian.

His answer: Ronnie Schell.

Thank you for the laughs, the memories, and a remarkable career.
